I was always kind of hoping lily would reappear one day, but it never happened. I suppose it’s a lot of work when you are much needed successful out of it.

One odd thing was you always hear loads of nice stuff about Paul, but apparently he was really good mates with cilla black, who I only ever hear terrible stuff about.
Which I found surprising- people with opposite harsh ends of reputation for niceness but apparently super close friends.

Re the Paul O'Grady discussion, I recall an interview from many years ago when he explained that being a drag queen has no connection to transvestism, and said a transvestite is "a man who has a wank in his mum's knickers" (perhaps not an exact quote, but close to what I remember). I think this caused some irritation at the time, as Eddie Izzard had been trying to make transvestism socially acceptable. In retrospect, it seems Paul was aware of what we now call autogynophilia, and the autogynephile's tendency to steal clothes from women, particularly family members, for sexual gratification.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to track down the clip. It might have been in an interview with Jonathan Ross, or possibly Frank Skinner (or someone else, even). In any case, Paul was not a sympathiser with the modern point of view on troons, and said many times that he would only portray Lily Savage for money.
