Modern fighter jets, such as the F-16, can detect, track and identify targets on their own, but their range and situational awareness is significantly diminished without AWACS, or early warning radar support. It is telling, that Russian fighters can bait and ambush ukie planes such easily. It means, Ukraine lost its capability to see what is going in the airspace near the battlefield.

- Russian air defence batteries have ranges of wildly different ranges, anywhere from 300 to 15km depending on the mood
- Ukrainians have no radar left if they can't spot other aircraft

- Ukrainians can't adapt to new tactics

Sounds about right.

Russians are probably using the Su-34s in their proper role as a bomber, and the ukies only come up to shoot them down and ignore dedicated fighter aircraft. North Vietnamese did something similar with their aircraft against US aircraft. Ukies are also probably controlling their pilots actions from the ground as well, just as the NVAF did during the Vietnam war. Which would explain the inability to adapt to new Russian tactics.

yah that's what I'm hinting at. the f16s wont be able to engage at the ranges they are saying they will be because of a lack of AWACS and would have to get closer in to use their own radar. knowing though that Ukraine is lacking any kind of radar to scan the skies means that these planes are toast. as in modern warfare you shouldn't be able to get jumped like they claim they are by anything short of an f22 or other really high end stealth fighter. seems Russia has all but won the air war

I think they use these symbolic victories to maintain their "brand image" really. The only thing that can keep the war going is unending western money and equipment and they need to keep their partisans motivated to continue to apply pressure for more of it. This is a victory where 10s of thousands of soldiers don't need to be blasted out trenches to achieve.

It would be pretty easy for a glowie to tell her "it's a red paint bomb meant to represent period blood" or some shit like that. Either way, that's the direction the interrogators should take it imo.
