Crime Police: Teens who carjacked man at gas station couldn't drive away due to manual transmission - Lol future astronauts

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Police have arrested two teenagers they say carjacked a person before realizing they couldn't drive the car due to it having a manual transmission.

According to a release from the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD), the 16-year-old juvenile from Rockville and a 17-year-old juvenile from Washington, D.C. have been arrested and charged for the strong-arm carjacking in Germantown on Saturday.

Officers were called to a Sunoco Gas Station in the 19200 block of Frederick Road just after 4:30 p.m. When they arrived, officers learned the driver, only identified as a man, got into his car when he noticed two teens running towards him.

When the teens got to the car, they reportedly forced open the door and grabbed the man while demanding he hand over his keys.

The victim complied and got out of the car after handing over his car keys.
Police say the two teens got into the car but realized they could not drive away after noticing the car had a manual transmission.
The pair then jumped out of the car and ran.

A short time later, officers noticed the two teens in the 19000 block of Frederick Road. When they tried to approach them, the teens ran but were caught after a short chase.

Both teens have been arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing unit, where they were charged as adults. The pair face one count of carjacking and one count of conspiracy carjacking each. They are currently being held without bond.

The only thing manual transmission is good for is a security feature so carjackers can't drive off with it.
Manuals are great 4x4ing. You get a lot more control over the vehicle and you can use the transmission to help you on steep rough terrain shit like that. Even 4x4ing in an automatic I downshift and use 1st and 2nd on bad hills.

This story is a reason why I’ll drive a manual in a city. Sure it sucks to park a manual by parallel parking but I know no one could steal it unless they just wanna go fast and have some respect for old cars to actually know how to drive a shifter. That being said the thiefs stealing cars can’t drive for shit now.
Most modern manuals have 1st gear and Reverse gear assist. You don't even need to use the gas for precision maneuvers anymore. Shit is cash.

>t, drives a modern manual

"This vehicle is equipped with an anti-millenial antitheft device"
Or whichever generation a 16 and 17 year old are in rn

That’s why instead of an automatic I built my own gear shift that is reversed and shoots poison tipped needles straight into your dickhole if you put it in wrong gear.

“Heh. Like my car, teens? Well, it’s a hell of a… Ride!”

But no one wants to steal my 2012 Kia covered in Anime stickers and filled with Starbucks wraps. Not sure why.

I think it’s easier. I parked a normal (manual) car for years parallel in a British city in on-street parking where you had to slither into spaces with just a few inches front and back. I don’t think I could do that in an automatic, you need the clutch control to really get into tough parking spots. There are more automatics here these days but I think the majority are still normal manual cars.
How can you be a carjacker and not know how to drive a car?? That’s like being a burglar and not understanding that windows can be opened or broken.

In their defense, driving manual requires an fair bit of dexterity and not every car has the same gear order...Which is usually labeled, so at least we can also call these kids illiterate.

Thank god for subie drivers. If it wasn't for their screeching autism, globohomo would've completely banned manual transmissions by this point.
