Honestly, I'm kind of surprised that Bobbo's Mario video was barely four minutes long. You'd think that he'd show a little more passion for a movie version of the defining video game of his formative years. I'm not saying he'd need to go on and on about it, but like...is that really all you have to say? "I liked it, it's like watching the video game, 9/10"? I get it's a kid's movie and Mario has a threadbare plot so even I'd probably be hard pressed to talk at length about it, but damn, this man wrote a fucking book on SMB3 (in theory), yet he can't think of anything more to say.

I don't dive in to the comments of Bob's videos often, but there's some gold in these hills. It's also proof positive that the only thing more pathetic than Bob is the dwindling audience of sycophants who think he has anything worthwhile to say.

(In contrast, I saw the D&D movie tonight, and while it too had a fair amount of references to the game and the Forgotten Realms setting, it was window dressing on an engaging and fun story. Definitely recommend.) It'll make a bunch of money anyway because Mario, but damn, remember when kids' movies could actually mean something more?

The Sonic movies definitely have their flaws, but they're at least trying to tell stories (even if the first movie's narrative is pretty by the numbers). It's about setting up a different side of the canon they can mold into any shape they want it to be. Just look at the second movie - it's Sonic 2 with a bit of 3+K. The next film will be SA2 mixed with some elements of Shadow the Hedgehog (the game, not the character). D'you think a Mario sequel will be willing to shake things up like that when the post credit scene for the first movie is merely a Yoshi egg cracking open? I love the Mario universe, but you need SOME meat with stories like this. Not a lot, but more than what's on offer here.
