Because I can listen to YT with my phone locked because I have YT premium. Or easily stream from TV, etc
YT Premium is for niggercattle. Join the NewPipe x SponsorBlock Master Race, fren.
More people using odysee will lead to it getting more ports on other platforms.
Odysee's Android app sucks donkey's balls. It chews through battery life like a mofo and it won't let you play videos in the background. That said, I still persevere with it just to show my support for the platform, and I'm sure they'll fix these issues one day.

It does play in the background, you have to hit play after locking your phone.

If you use Brave browser, you can listen to anything even if the phone is locked. Youtube without premium, Odysee, whatever.
Simply activate the option in the settings and there you go. You can now stop your subscription to youtube premium and buy beef instead.
Also there are no ads, of course. Only NPCs still use the Internet with ads.

A bit of a doomer idea, but with the rise of the whole presidents do X genre of AI, in the next presidential election I'll bet they'll claim all of the faux pas moments of the lefty candidate are deep fake AI's and not actually real in the media. It's no different than what happens already, but I can see it being ramped up and being effective.

Vanced got killed by Google with a cease and desist a while ago, so installing it is probably a bad idea, since it's no longer maintained.
Vanced still works. Like you say, it's not maintained, and don't go looking for an APK now, you can't trust the ones hosted at various places now haven't been fucked with, but if you still have it installed, it works.

Nowadays, there's Revanced. Only get it from the official Github, and you have to do a slightly cumbersome process (the revancedapp subreddit has detailed instructions), since rather than just an APK you download and install, it's a patcher that you have to use to patch an official youtube APK with the features you want, etc. But it's the current way to go.
There's some alternatives, but I'm not super familiar.

And there's also a Revanced Extended thing that adds more functionality, but I haven't used it.

I have continued to use Vanced since the shutdown and for the most part It Just Werks™. It does occasionally crash every few weeks but the sponsorblock and adblock parts still work. I do sometimes get advertisements while on the home page or under videos. One feature I quite like is the default playback speed as I need to consoom my content as fast as possible.
Newpipe is complete jank and F-Droid keeps crashing for me even with the latest updates. The wonders of OSS.

I will eventually get around to figuring out how to get Revanced or Revanced-Extended working but at the moment "if it aint broke, dont fix it"

What does Revanced Extended add over the original Revanced? The github readme seems rather sparse on features and the updates only seem to mention fixes to bugs rather than additions.

The only feature I know of for sure is being able to integrate with other apps like video downloaders (Newpipe, Seal, some others?), so you can easily download videos from the app. Obviously there's more but I haven't really looked into it.
