CONTEXT: I'd just received a huge royalty check (money for nothing) from DC Comics during the height of Pencil's Down CoVid, and haters were calling me "unprofessional" for bragging about it. What a great day.

This is so true. For many manga fans ; usually younger audience (under 30?), their impression of comics usually is mainstream comics the big two pushes (mostly very safe, not inspiring, not interesting stuff.) I rarely seen people talk about Sin city or watchmen or other old books not to mention comicgate stuff. The stream also made me notice a seeming disparity between manga and comic fans. Did anyone else notice when Frog finally showed Tim a panel of Cyberfrog, Tim seemed genuinely impressed? Put simply, I don't think manga-only people are aware of the level of artistic talent among comic artists, just like comic artists are seemingly unaware of how manga authors write circles around them, and I don't think comic artists have the wherewithal to lean into this advantage.
Funny you mention Claymore, I'm re-reading it right now and remembering how underrated it is. It's ironically the kind of thing that would be immediately greenlit in the modern west but would also be impossible to do justice to by the same standard. Kind of hard to hunt Yoma and Awakened Beings when your exclusively-female warriors just wanna naval gaze and scissor each other. This is so true. and vice versa, when I see old comic fans talk about manga, all they do is clowning on kid show ( like my hero academia) or go straight to hentai like wth. Never have i seen a die hard comic fan talk about Berserk, Liar Game or Claymore.
Yep. It was beautiful.Funny you mention Claymore, I'm re-reading it right now and remembering how underrated it is.
May be we can hope someone will recommend some out of the world artwork, you will never know.To get back to your point, it doesn't help that most manga fans are absolutely terrible ambassadors for their hobby and lead with babies-first-anime like Tim did instead of tailoring their recommendations toward the person they're actually speaking to.
At this point the concept of manga is permanently stained for Frog, just like the idea of him ever watching the Clone Wars cartoon. He will *never* do it.
I think a large part of it is that the quality of rendering has never really been the most important part of manga. Off the top of my head I can’t think of a single popular manga that’s entirely carried by amazing art; whereas there’s plenty of examples of the opposite, where a series becomes popular despite below-average art. One Punch Man might ironically be an example of both, where the original webcomic got pretty popular despite being drawn in mspaint scribbles, while the manga keeps dragging on and on and I’m pretty sure the only reason anyone still reads is for Murata’s art.The stream also made me notice a seeming disparity between manga and comic fans. I think there's some shame that the guys have about enjoying manga and anime (except Fraga who openly fanboys about Shirow and Otomo)Yep. It was beautiful.

it's all completely coincidental. But "Mandy Summers" (not her real name) is unfortunately for CG just that bit too close to the remaining sad old men in the inner circle for her downfall to be shrugged off.CG survived the Chileans but may not survive Mandy's hot wife era. So weird. And of course now is the time EVS decides not to stream 15 hours a day.

Agree. Many manga fans even read manhwa (korean comic) or manhua (chinese comic) but those are usually long series with subpar art. Maybe casual readers didnt enjoy cool artworks like old readers. But I doubt many manga fans will be convinced to try out American comics on art quality alone.
Why are the license plates Chinese? Busy loading three trucks in China?I’m busy! View attachment 5058381
No you see those random trucks are filled to overflowing with All-Crap merchandise for the 400 remaining paypigs. We're meant to marvel in slack-jawed wonder at the vanity publisher and his equally vainglorious toy production which is basically the same energy as McFarlane Toys. https://mcfarlane.com/Why are the license plates Chinese? And why is it just a picture of the same 4 trucks twice each? And why are there so many differently sized boxes? And why are the pictures so low resolution, like far below anything a modern phone would capture? And why are they so tightly cropped as if to hide the surroundings? Why are the license plates Chinese? Busy loading three trucks in China?
no, these are four 40 foot shipping containers filled with CYBERFROG action figures that are officially on the water! The crates are different sizes because some are frogs, some are Vyzpzz and some are chicken bucket accessory packs. Heather Swain figures are going thru another adjustment, and they’ll follow. Why are the license plates Chinese? Busy loading three trucks in China?
