At the end of his latest video on that surplus M17, Ian commented on the SIG situation, pointing out the rectification made; which honestly made the video more interesting than it otherwise would've. I'd hoped he'd mention it on at least on a technical level; but since I don't watch FW Q&A much anymore, I don't recall him talking about SIG's problems....

...I'm certainly not a stan for SIG, and I honestly dislike their modern pistols for a lot reasons. But already I can hear reddit autists & forum/arfcom faggots bearing hateboners, insisting this is more proof Ian won't denounce a dangerous pistol and/or has sold out to SIG.
What pisses me off about SIG is the clear and overwhelming differentiation between gov contract products and civilian ones even to the point of safety. The XM17 handguns presented to the Army for trials had improvements in safety (such as a lighter trigger) that SIG was absolutely fine with NOT providing that level of safety to normal consumers, only to be forced to later because of controversy and they STILL have guns going off even in holsters. Even when you account for profitability and applicability with P320 and the difference of consumer market they release M17/M19 guns with increased price tags where people will appreciate having 1:1 of the military guns no matter the cost or inapplicability with pissweak civilian ammo they STILL make it a second rate handgun meant for consumers and not to military spec. They even cheap out on coatings and finishes on the commercial M17/M19 guns, as if people wouldn't pay $100 more to have the exact peepee poopoo superior grade of finishing the military has (and I'm sure SIG pays nowhere near that in manufacturing difference).

From what I've heard there are gov agencies that normally authorized individually procured handguns but do not allow that anymore after buying SIG government spec handguns and they no longer authorize private purchase of equivalent models since the commercial guns are materially different than the ones SIG sells to the government.

I just don't understand why anyone would do this, it doesn't make you look like a good person. Come into another man's home, take advantage of his hospitality, deceive him, and then proceed to shit all over not only who he is, bet everything that he loves. That kind of egregious behavior is worthy of an ass beating, not just in America, but in many other parts of the world.
Brandon seems like an easy mark for these kinds of spergs since he's for having a "conversation" in the hope of "changing minds."

Marketed as a home defense weapon, is a handgun and is thus inferior to a small carbine
Smart Phones can be jailbroken, so can smart guns
No info on battery life (so it's shit) (claimed to be "months")
Front sight is LED illuminated, LED's are known to never ever break.
Also, women: "Shit, I forgot to charge my gun!"
:story:

Edit: my wife said it first.:hah:

They're the new Colt. You could have just said that.
Colt was kind enough to tell me that I was getting some other bullshit model and not "M4" or whatever that they weren't going to sell me. That was also during (and before) the AWB era and a different time culturally altogether. Colt also didn't sell guns that just went off on their own more for their civilian guns.

No thanks, the gun seem to have a failure to feed, the laser makes the gun seem like for amateurs, and the camera on the back might break if the gun is dropped.

I will stick with my Kimber 1911 or Glock.
Not the only high profile YouTuber to promote the system. I have a lot of time for Ryan McBeth, but he's using a lot of the same language that Ian did.

Moreso in the broad sense of things with them allowing their manufacturing standards to slip as the prices on their increasingly uninspired guns goes up since they got fat and lazy ever since they managed to start sucking on the government teat, all the while having an attitude of "fuck you, got mine" when it comes to civilian sales.

I'm gonna lose my shit when it comes out that the stupid thing just plain doesn't work for women because they set up their profile with makeup on and it straight up cannot recognize them without it.

Another thing, I don't like is the sight on the gun which is an fairly large LED. It just seems too excessive for a front sight. The fingerprint sensor is not where I traditionally place my finger on a pistol, usually almost on the slide. Again, this man mentioned a jam during him firing it at the range, which makes me question its reliability. I wonder if Biofire targeted GunTubbers they knew who would go easy on them. The whole pistol seems to be something for wealthy novices to firearms. I would like to run this gun though a pistol combat course with it used by novices and experts.

P.S. This gun will not be available for sale in California due to its "safe" handgun roster.

P.P.S. Since it's shoot by wire, I wonder what the trigger reset is.

and it took Colt 20 years to get over general keys bullshit. SIG might well take longer.

(Keys was the CEO to stop production of all the revolvers, most pistols and other civilian guns to focus exclusively on the M4 and contract chasing. it led to short term gain but the company was bankrupt again by ~2010)

Small Arms Solution has a great video about this era of Colt. Besides doing all that he also staffed the entire upper management of Colt with all his USMC buddies. They would apparently still refer to themselves and each other using their USMC rank, and tensions would rise because people would get upset because I was a major in the Corps and he was only a staff sergeant so he can't get promoted above me.

Sig might have better luck since European companies seem to generally have a better track record with getting government subsidies than American companies.

SIG is a completely US company at this point in everything but name. SIG Germany is gone, and SIG USA took over all manufacturing and R&D work since then. SIG Switzerland only employs 200 people and is kept alive by Swiss army contracts for the SG550. If that ever ends I'm sure it'll be closed like SIG germany.

Was unaware of that. Here's hoping they pull their heads out of their asses and shape up to avoid bankruptcy.

pressing X pretty hard. SIG will go bankrupt, but that wont be the end for the brand.
Most of Colt's history has been bankruptcies. Remington too. Smith and Wesson nearly went bankrupt in 2000 When they made a agreement with the Clinton administration on a "code of conduct" and smart guns (the locks were part of this too). The Administration also placed them on a preferred buyer program to offset industry blow back. That wasn't enough and the boycott nearly killed them. the company ended up being sold for 15 million (for context they are currently valued at almost a billion).

Sturm-Ruger on the otherhand is a fantastically well run company. They operate with a budget surplus and were able to buy Marlin from Remington with cash.
