I posted this in the Aella thread in response to her claim that flooding the market with AI child porn would reduce abuse, but it's also relevant here to rebut Prostasia's claim that "safe" alternatives like child sex dolls and the like discourage hands-on abuse of children.

Bourke, M. L., & Hernandez, A. E. (2009). The 'Butner Study' redux: A report of the incidence of hands-on child victimization by child pornography offenders. Journal of Family Violence, 24(3), 183–191.

This study examined a group of inmates who were imprisoned for child porn--just images. Of this group of 155, only 30 had another conviction for real-world child abuse, so you might think that's a decently low percentage. As it turns out, however, 22 more had admitted during interviews that they had committed hands-on sex abuse. Furthermore, while in this study, the offenders went through a treatment program where they could admit to further abuse as part of counseling. By the end of treatment, 131 inmates (85%) admitted to hands-on abuse.

Before the treatment program, there were only 75 known child victims of the 155 child-porn convicts. By the end of treatment, the group of 155 child-porn offenders had admitted to abusing a total of 1,777 children. This indicates the correlation between significant child porn consumption and real-world child abuse is extremely high, so giving pedophiles "safe" alternatives to act on their child molestation fantasies is not going to do anything to reduce abuse; it will only inflame their sick desires.
