On average, there are roughly 30 dog fatalities per year in the US. Most are small children, who can and have been killed by smaller dogs.

Best way to prevent that is to never allow super young kids around any dogs (or animals of any kind) unsupervised. Highly doubt every single supposedly unprovoked attack was actually unprovoked and there aren't parents who fudged the truth about leaving their spawn unsupervised around the dog(s).

Especially since telling the truth could result in manslaughter or child endangerment charges.

It is vanishingly rare for children to be killed by small companion dog breeds. Almost all of those 30 annual fatalities are from larger guardian or fighting breeds that should not be kept as family pets. This idea that beagles or poodles are just as dangerous as dogs bred to excel at blood sports is absolute rubbish.

There was a case recently where a mother was supervising her two children while they were around the family pit bulls.

The pit bulls killed the two children right in front of the mother. How many chihuahuas have killed children right in front of their mothers?

It wasn't even the family's dog in that case. When was the last time any other breed just invaded a yard and killed a child right as the mother watched?

If a fighting breed dog directs it's fighting instincts onto children, there's little that a supervising parent can do once the attack starts unless there's a gun handy. Once an attacking pit bull gets going, little can stop it.

Pit bulls don't remind me of black people, and, frankly, it's usually white women who try to make the argument that bloodsport dogs are just as potentially dangerous as poodles.

Poodles are no where near as potentially dangerous as pit bulls. When was the last time a person was killed by a poodle (or even one of the ubiquitous 'doodles)?

All I know about dog bites is from experience. I’ve known multiple people get non life threatening puncture wounds from small breeds, and one kid who got half his face ripped off and ear eaten by a pitbull completely unprovoked. It’s the difference between a house cat and a lion. Don’t care about ‘temperament’, do care about aftermath. But that’s irrelevant, we all know the true motivation at play here…

When was the last time anyone used Akitas for their dog fighitng ring? Seriously, find me a report where police broke up a dogfighting ring and the dogs were anything other than pit bulls.

That said, akitas are a breed most people have no business owning, but they are no where near as widely used in dogfighting as pit bulls are (if anyone even uses them for that anymore). Serious breeders of akitas usually acknowledge the drawbacks of their breed, even though they are primarily bred as pets these days. The large mastiffs used in bloodsports (Presa Canarios) belong in the same category as pit bulls. They are not pets.

Terriers were bred for rodent control. Some people used them in exhibitions where they'd see which dogs could kill the highest number of rats in a certain time period. That is gruesome. However, vermin control does have a purpose - rats can carry disease and can destroy stores of grain. Dogfighting has no purpose beyond producing unstable, dangerous animals that don't have a place in society.

Also, who the hell is using boxers, Boston terriers, yorkies, or jack Russel terriers in blood sports these days? Where are all the yorkie rat-fighting rings? They don't exist. People do use jack russels as rat-killing dogs, but rats are pests.

When was the last time a gang of yorkies or Jack Russell Terriers killed a child? The idea that yorkies are as potentially dangerous as pit bulls because they were used for vermin control in the 1800s is silly.

My family owned and raised Akitas off and on. They are absolutely not a starter breed, they’re strong, extremely smart and stubborn. With the last one we had, if we wanted to introduce him to someone new we had to make sure he saw them come into the backyard through the backdoor. Anyone unfamiliar that entered through the gate was clocked as an intruder and chased but hey that was him doing as his breed was made to do, protect his family.

Ugh this dog…so this picture showed up back in the MySpace era. Pretty much what happened is some pos breeder sold this young guy the dog as a puppy for a retarded amount of money and convinced him it was going to be the next “hitter”. The kid, obviously not smart, did not realize this dog was a train wreck and took it out to a bully expo then got ripped apart by everyone.
