The general construct of "regret" is a terrible way to judge satisfaction, post-decision happiness, QOL outcomes, etc. because of a little annoying inherent part of our human nature that of which, is cope. This effect is amped up when whatever outcome we 're dealing with is the result of our own actions. Choice justification and outcome adaptation is a well-documented phenomenon within psychology across decisions of all levels of importance and subject. Whatever choice we choose within a decision set, we end up liking our choice more after the fact. This is especially true for choice we have trouble picking between. Adaptation is our natural ability to adapt/return to a baseline after a horrible event happens to us, e.g. amputees reporting similar levels of happiness after. It keeps us from killing ourselves. Now add in a zealous community who only feeds you that sweet validation and support so long as you sing nothing but praise for their practices and customs, the reality your psyche is shielding you from being a soul-crushing horror (you've destroyed your genitals and physically disabled yourself so you must not realize this at any costs), and the societal pressure of No Going Back On Your Word (because you would have caused all that trouble for nothing), you have the 1% "transition regret rate."Its not the win they think it is. Its like dictators having 99% approval. Something in the way they gather the data is flawed at best, falsified at worst.
