Interesting tidbit on Dune, the author Frank Herbert, wrote it while living in Florence, Oregon, land of huge sand dunes. In the news at the times was a cult centered around Maria Sabina and the sacred mushroom cults of Mexico (the bene gesserit are based on this.) Herbert was inspired by magic mushrooms to create “spice” otherwise known as melange, in his books.

The other thing Florence is known for.... that time they blew up the whale.

Something that I randomly remembered recently was this video, it's an odd look into the challenges and lunacy faced by Internet archivers that I think might be interesting as it's such a small site in retrospect that had a lot of the legal threats and issues of here because people didn't like what they had said or done in the past

Sometimes the more that changes, the more things stay the same.

And the best part, the company being sued had changed it's name a few times, though it was at one point


It's like poetry, it doesn't repeat, it rhymes.

Anyone remember which stream it was where Josh started not so subtly talking about the idea of warrant canaries with relation to the farms? I know it was quite some time after the one that used to be at the bottom next to the text that says minors have to leave the site was removed.

I don't remember a particular MatI stream where he's talked about them but there was an episode of Rekieta's show where they talked about them for a bit. It was right after the Christ Church shooting. It could be what you're thinking of

Watching the latest MATI with the SNL clip about states passing bills so "trans kids" don't get mutilated and I was reminded of why modern SNL (and basically every single other talk show) is so unfunny. When you use comedy to very blatantly push for a political agenda your audience sees through it and becomes uncomfortable. Your job as a comedian is to entertain not lecture. Like imagine if the Simpsons had a golden age episode where Lisa gets really into abortion rights for women and that was the episode. Think of how weird that would be. That was that skit.
