1. Emergency responders are not going to abduct an unwilling, mentally fit patient. Chris is constitutionally allowed to deny himself treatment if he sees fit, even if it results in his death.
This assumes he's mentally fit throughout his illiness. This also assumes he was mentally fit to begin with.
What you're saying only applies if some troll calls an ambulance on him similar to swatting when he's otherwise alright. Realistically though, if someone calls an emergency responder on him, it's probably because he went out to lunch or something, keeled over, and someone near him had to call an ambulance.
Sepsis has a nasty tendency to cause altered mental status as a result of dratically-lowered blood pressure. This is caused by the body responding to the infection by dialating every blood vessel in the body. This then results in decreased blood pressure, which can then lead to inadequate blood perfusion to the brain. The end result is that he suffers from altered mental status before decompensating and keeling over. This is what we'd call septic shock.
Chris's autism may be mild, but his actions can definitely make his mental ability seem worse than what it is really to the people around him. With the way he acts in front of people, he can definitely come off as either mentally ill or otherwise suffering from altered mental status as a sign/symptom of septic shock.
Both typically fit the criteria for deeming a patient as mentally incompetent and can thus cannot refuse medical treatment or transport if there is no competent third party to make decisions in his place (and we all know Barb won't be mentally competent for shit).
As an EMT myself, we're perfectly well within our rights to take in a patient we deem to be incompetent to make his own choices. Either by his own autism or as a symptom of his sepsis, his ability to consent can easily be revoked.
2. No troll has encouraged this as far as I know. There was a rumor that someone had, but I can't confirm it. Do know that if you are a troll encouraging Chris to not seek help for this wound, you will come under investigation for murder if he dies.
Really? Under what law would this happen? Nobody would be able to prove that said troll was actively trying to prevent him from going to the hospital.
For all anyone knows, said "troll" could simply be giving bad advice without realizing it. Believe me, there's plenty of people out there that misguidedly insist on depriving their buddies/loved ones the appropriate treatment. Let me point to exhibit A: Barb/Bob and their insistence in not giving Chris psychiatric treatment/special education.
No investigation would get the troll in trouble on just the "advice" alone.
