I'll do what I can I suppose.

The microbiome is a rather complex system and can have far-reaching effects. For example, I believe metabolites produced by gut microbes can potentially affect the brain. I did a bit of research on the metabolites produced from tryptophan by gut microbes, which I believe include tryptamine, indole-3-carbinol, and serotonin. I think this may have been in the context of inhibiting inflammation, but I may be misremembering some details, although I may be able to look up what I researched if you want me to confirm it. Anyway, there is research that suggests the gut microbes influence the development of disorders such as diabetes, as well as possibly influencing weight. Based on a quick look, it looks like the hypothesized mechanism is that the metabolites the microbes produce can potentially have a positive or negative effect on the body depending on what is produced.
