Poubelle is willfully misunderstanding Roman and Greek culture. There were indeed mystery cults that worshipped Dionysus and Cybele (and other hermaphroditic deities) but they were counter culture and viewed as weird even ancient times.

There was no great trans utopia. Males who wished to serve Dionysus were castrated before they could lead rituals. The cult of Dionysus was NOT friendly. They had a yearly ritual where the femme castrated and the women would get drunk and form a mob and roam, then slash to death any male they encountered. Then they'd burn the dead guy's testicles as an offering to Dionysus. They were so shitty that they were eventually banned in Rome because they were nuts even by Roman standards.

They were the crust punk lunatic fringe thousands of years ago and Poubelle is trying to claim them as his when a real priestess would cut his balls off. Talk about cultural appropriation...

That's exactly it: appropriation. Billie is willfully taking other culturural practices out of context so he can continue his evil cis empire fantasy. It's seriously in the same vein as citing Aztec human sacrifice as evidence they were all Satanist.

This is a ludicrously ignorant troon version of WE WUZ KAAAANGS. While there were historically gender roles other than traditionally masculine and feminine it isn't like there was anything enlightened about this. For instance, they'd castrate young boys to keep their voices high. Or castrate grown men and slaves to act as eunuchs so the patriarchs could have harem guards but yet know that the children born to their multiple wives were their own.

Historical revisionism isn't good no matter who does it.

I just learned that my local library has Sophie's "A girl like any other" (Une fille comme les autres) being "Processed", meaning they are preparing the book to go on shelves and be rented.

Should I step in and prevent this by displaying the author's controversial opinions to the library management?

We also don't need any more whining and victimization to cause his Patreon to swell up with more pitybucks.
