A deranged man defecated on a gay pride flag at an Upper West Side tapas bar — and then apparently carved a smiley face into the pile, according to surveillance footage obtained by The Post.

The stomach-turning incident, which police are investigating as a hate crime, happened at Buceo 95’s dining shed at West 95th Street and Amsterdam Avenue around 10 a.m. on April 15, police said.

General Manager Nathan Nolan Edwards, 34, identifies as gay and said the restaurant where he’s worked for six years has “a very inclusive, largely LGBTQ+-identifying staff” that includes professional drag queens.

“It’s definitely a punch to the gut,” he said. “We certainly haven’t experienced anything to this degree. A defecation on a pride flag is not the norm here.”

The clip captured the man placing the rainbow banner on a chair, and then relieving himself on it. He then picks up a second Pride flag and uses it to wipe his backside, the video shows.

He then fled north on Amsterdam Avenue.

Cops are looking for the suspect and released video that shows him walking near the scene.

Owner Courtney Barroll, 63, said the restaurant she owns with her boyfriend has been displaying flags for years.

“Obviously we thought it was disgusting,” she said. “It was sad, it was disgusting. It angered me that people in this world have such hatred for others that they could do something so awful and so vile.”

She said the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force has been working hard to find the culprit.

Barroll told her staff she’d put up even more flags now.

“I said, ‘Don’t worry, because for the two flags that he has taken from us, I will put 50 more up, and I’ll wallpaper the whole restaurant with them,’” she said. “They all burst out laughing, and said ‘We know you.’”

"Free Speech" covers shit like burning the American Flag and the proliferation of pornography; but doesn't allow the criticism of (((God's Chosen))) or the sexually deranged... just like The Founders intended.
@AnOminous Ive always wondered how the first amendment applies to hate crimes like spraying a swastika on the side of the synagogue

If you can burn the US flag I can burn the diversity flag.
I think the problem here is that it wasn't their flag. They defaced someone else's property. I don't know why this needs to be treated like a hate crime though. That's kind of dumb and I'm surprised this kind of use for the law hasn't been booted out of appeals court yet.

Yeah, it's vandalism but not necessarily a hate crime. People are on edge because of perceived whatever-phobia but sometimes a crazy person does crazy person things. I know it's easy to forget when one lives in the gentrified part of town or just plain ignores the passive homeless people, though. New Yorkers be retarded.

Damaging someone’s property is vandalism and in some cases harassment. They were already covered during the days of the founders when Catholics got pissed at Guy Fawkes day (as in people burning an effigy of the Pope near Catholic communities and trying to incite a fight, it supposedly stopped because a number of Catholics weathered Valley Forge and George didn’t want his Papist homies suffering that indignity).

From what I understand the hate crime shot just allows the Feds to ruin you. The Civil Rights act is very much a bad law because it demolishes right to association by allowing Feds to come after you.

Not Anominous, but damaging someone’s shit was never First Amendment. The Flag Burning case is hilarious because it was stolen and they ignored that during the case. You can do whatever you want with your own property is a big thing, however, people are within their rights to call you a faggot for burning a flag.

Vandalism of other people's property isn't constitutionally protected. I disagree in general with a specific category of hate crimes, but as with other crimes, a particularly reprehensible motivation for a crime usually justifies an enhanced sentence. I'd prefer such things be adjudicated on a case by case basis, though, rather than putting a thumb on the scale and making it mandatory.

An additional factor in sentencing is also the likelihood of recidivism, and when someone commits a crime because they hate a specific person and have already done their worst, they are unlikely to reoffend, but someone who hates an entire group of millions of people is (at least in theory) much more likely to reoffend. Again, this should be adjudicated on a case by case basis informed by the character of the specific defendant, not with some one-size-fits-all solution like a hate crimes statute.

So while I think there might be a justification for an enhancement in the case of some act of vandalism that is actually intended to cause terror against a population, that should be distinguished from some edgy teen who needs help and not extreme punishment.

Its NYC, they dont even lock nigs up if they kill somebody...

Reminds me of the time when I was in that shithole known as downtown Sacramento at like 8 PM and there were about 6 middle-school-aged rowdies riding bikes through traffic and an old homeless man called one of them the gamer word and they all came to a screeching dead halt trying to decide if this was worth chimping out over or not.

"He call me a nigger! He call me a nigger! He call me a nigger! He call me a nigger! He call me a nigger! He call me a nigger! He call me a nigger! He call me a nigger!"

And they're all sizing up this 6'2" white guy who looks like he eats tin cans and meth for breakfast.

They finally decided that it was not going to end well for them and rode off into the night, where one of them promptly came within 5 feet of being hit by a light rail train.

I guess my point is that even if the crazy guy is being based AF, he's not going to be the one getting the lesson, you are. And the lesson is "Don't fuck with crazy people."

Any of the geniuses who thought "hate crimes" should exist in American law have anything to say?

This isn’t a hate crime, hell it’s barely a crime. It’s your property. I’m sick of these flag fags who get outraged over someone desecrating a piece of fabric.
