Ralph is close to 40, his body won't react the same way it did when he was younger, besides he was poor before, I doubt he ever had the money or chance to abuse drugs the way he's been doing.

Wasn't the last time he quit literally just because he was in jail, and he was back to his old tricks within a couple of months of being released?

No he had a heart to heart moment after the pillstream where he went on the straight and narrow. Gator and Fagmenco were there to console him and say he does shows better sober and said he was giving up on pills and drinking. But technically I guess last time was sober spring and we all know how that lasted.

One thing Ralph also mentioned on last nights stream when he was talking about his addictive personality was that he is also addicted to pornography. He didn't outright say it but he said he overdoes everything including "watching certain stuff". Not like its news that Ralph is a huge coomer, but its pretty funny that hes not even married 3 months and already has a dead bedroom. Probably part of the reason he couldn't knock her up again. If broke dick Ralph had managed to put a baby in Meigh she would still be in Casa Avocado today, but he prefers to jerk it to porn instead. Sad!

Also, speaking of AA and Infinite Jest, while I've never been through AA myself or known anyone who has gone through AA, that book seems to paint an accurate description of AA. So, Ethanol Liver, if you want a piece of (unqualified at best, shitty at worst) advice, if you go to AA, do all the steps. They'll sound stupid and you'll be too smart for them. Do them anyways. All of them. That's the only way they'll work, but if you do all of them, they'll work. Anyways, I love that book and if any kiwis want to talk about it, my dms are open.

He needs to engage with a recovery community, if you stick with NA and AA it's so effective, a little time and effort and you get quite a lot of perspectives, keen insight. You meet people who have been through the worst of it and come out the other side. Some people there come across like they'd never touched a beer in their life. The reading materials are interesting too. Also people with the willpower to beat an addiction can inspire others to quit when you see how worth it is to be clean.


This is the best option, tapering off off benzos with no other support in place is possible, but its like hell on earth.

I think that had more to do with losing his Argentina online pharmacy than any willpower or moment of clarity.

I always said that Ralph’s previous periods of being off Xanax, or only using small amounts, were due to supply problems, not by any choice he made.

Adrienne Blair said he immediately raided her Xanax stash when he got to her apartment. His first order of business in Italy was getting a Xanax script.

Ralph will never stop using Xanax in a country where they are so easy to obtain. The only way he will stop taking Xanax is if he can’t get his hands on them.

I think he will try to stop drinking, or only have “one or two” before the show to pep him up and another Xanax after the show as a reward. But he’s not going to be able to walk that razors edge, which he will claim is sobriety, for long until his inebriation on stream is painfully obvious again. It will be the alcohol on top of Xanax that does it. He can function fairly normally (for Gunt) on 10 mg a day of Xanax because he’s so strung out, but adding in the booze will give it away eventually.

The late great prophet Bill Hicks (pbuh) went to AA meetings in every city he had shows. If it’s good enough for him, it’s probably too good for a Ralph.

I doubt Ralph will read all that, but I did, and the shitshow Ralph has coming for him doesn't seem so funny anymore.

I've been meaning to read this book since Godwinson recommended it. Might start it this evening.
As to this AA thing, Ralph's inability to get sober has been discussed to death but I'd like to say that one of his primary issues is unwillingness to admit fault. When you've been a scumbag addict for years, you have a laundry list of sins that will probably be hard to recall in it's entirety.
When Ralph's able to do the work of enumerating and making amends for all of the evil he's spread, then he has a chance in the long term. As it is, at best Ralph has a shot at being a dry drunk ,at worst he's going into a honeymoon stage in his addiction cycle and any supposed progress will be short lived.

Get sober Ralph. You'll still be the same person, except you'll love yourself when no is looking.
