Sony hate thread

The trailer pretty much seals the deal that this movie is pointless.

And the official poster for the game isn't any better either, and maybe actually worse:

This will make Legend of Chun-Li, Assassin's Creed movie, Tomb Raider 2018, Doom Annihilation and Welcome to Raccoon City look like the works of Hitchcock by comparison. And this movie is released in the same year as the new Mario movie and the upcoming FNaF movie.

This movie is nothing but literal marketing for Sony and the GT franchise. The fanboys will piledrive this into the fucking ground with SEEE WE ARE THE BEST RACING GAME WE GOT A MOVIE SEE
If getting a movie was the criteria to being the best console racing game, Need For Speed already accomplished this in 2014 and everyone knows how that turned out.

You're forgetting that this is the fanbase that already thinks that GT7 is:

- the most realistic sim on the market
- somehow, both the easiest and hardest sim on the market
- has the best car list/customization on the market
- has the best visuals on the market (everything outside of cars looks like a ps3 game)

Etc

All for a game that lacks the majority of simcade features, a proper physics engine, car classes etc let alone actual sim features. And they brigade other fanbases with this info

They will absolutely run with this. Before this trailer even dropped, when this movie was in development, I had its existence thrown in my face multiple times while recruiting/discussing in GT groups.

They'll absolutely gobble this up.

I would die happy if they made a faithful recreation of Mr. Grimm's story circa TM:Black.
Hell, I'll settle for Frank McCutcheon/Crazy 8. Try explaining how a blind man can drive and kill without hilarious results.
Let’s be honest, even without current year, Black would have to be/was heavily edited. I doubt we could ever get its stories in true form.

Also more information:
Summary: Mackey plays John Doe from Black, keeping the amnesia plot. A new character named Quiet will be introduced as the girlboss help. Agent Stone from TM1 will appear and drive Outlaw. Finally Raven from Black will be the last TM character to actually make an appearance that has been confirmed, outside of obviously Sweet Tooth.

Honestly, kind of a shit list of characters. How did Axel, Mr. Grim, Dollface, Preacher and especially Calypso all get left out? Not to mention other favorites like Mr. Slam or Minion. From what it looks like, it will just be a shitty TM Black with little to no references to any outside game past maybe the first.

Not to mention that GT's tagline is literally "THE REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR", even though it's clearly not. I guess those fans compare the latest GT games, to racing games that came out 10, 15, or even 20 years ago.

That same argument is also something they've thrown in my face, as well as not only other simracers, but real life racers.

I have no doubts that sad excuse for a fanbase will take this and cheer it on like as if it were better than sliced bread. That is how all of Sony's recent games are anyways.

I just find it funny how the GT bros think having a film made about their mediocre simcade racer makes them the supreme choice. Despite the fact that better competition for the "real driving simulator" has appeared since GT5.

wasn't that movie ok, just not necessary?
It's been awhile since I've seen it. I think the movie captures some of the spirit of the games pretty alright. My main gripe with it is that it's too forgettable.

What sucks is that I'm a long time fan of GT. I grew up playing them. GT7 just is not a classic GT game, which is what it was advertised as

The problem is that the fans who didn't like it (the majority) simply walked away. The rest remained hardcore and claimed it was "just like GT4" when it genuinely shares nothing with the game. It's so insanely frustrating, it's headache inducing.

What PD/Sony did was take a bunch of odds and ends from previous games and just kind of slap them in uselessly, solely for the purpose of selling the game. They don't ACTUALLY FUNCTION like a classic GT game. None of it does. I'm not sure if you've played classic GT in depth, but it was very special

>Twisted Metal TV show in 2023
>Gran Turismo movie in 2023

If anything, one must question why they always have to make reboots from entries of the 90’s and still come away not understanding or figuring out why those entries are popular. Honestly, the GT movie could have been made in the 2000’s, and Twisted Metal could have been an animated movie and not an actual TV show that will have nothing to do with the said video game.

It’s about as more absurd as seeing this happen:

- Why Doe? He should've been Axel or Outlaw from Black. The Outlaw from 1 is a white guy and his story was that he was there to stop Calypso's contest. It would've made more sense for him to be Agent Stone, seeking a chance at redemption.
John Doe was a fed who was preventing terrorism. In this series universe the world has already ended and they live in the post-apocalypse a la FarCry New Dawn.

- Raven? So they're going to tear my favorite female driver apart. Fuck.
Can't wait for her to be calling herself a non-binary lesbo.

- Again, Outlaw; why is he not Anthony Mackie?

- Girlboss help is stupid and goes against TM. It's one driver per car unless the two drivers (Outlaw in 3, Needles/Marcus in Head-On, Mike & Stu in 2) have identical wishes. And if girlboss has the same desire/wish as Mackie, and Mackie is playing John Doe, wouldn't that mean she already knows Doe's past and thus can grant Doe his memories without the need of winning the contest by delivering the package (so so so so stupid)?

How did Axel, Mr. Grim, Dollface, Preacher and especially Calypso all get left out? Not to mention other favorites like Mr. Slam or Minion.
- Raven is awesome and I will fight you if you disagree.

- Be happy they're getting spared from this shitfest.

- Preacher will never be portrayed on screen. His story is probably the third most fucked up (the most fucked up if you count Jaffe's original idea and story for Preacher) in the entire series. Everyone else can be portrayed but heavily censored (Axel would not be shown being domestically violent towards his wife, Dollface (the Black iteration) will not be shown gettting nailed to the mask, and Mr. Grimm is either too cartoony or too violent for the vibe the show is aiming for.

From what it looks like, it will just be a shitty TM Black with little to no references to any outside game past maybe the first.
Disagree; it's Head-On & PS3 reboot inspired. Nothing in that trailer screams Black. The color palette, the music choice, Mackey having a colorful personality, etc.
The only Black-esque element is Needles pre-death sentence.

...what any of this has to do with winning a contest to have any one wish you want granted, I still have no clue.

A new character named Quiet will be introduced as the girlboss help.

OMG Sony, you whores!

Oh, they understand perfectly well - they just deliberately choose to ignore those reasons because those reasons apply to "icky chuds" - we have to subvert their media in order to get them on OUR side, you see?!

How's the supposed star place last in billing?
And only the lesser known gets billing until they got forgotten as careers are killed. Like Alicia Vikander in the 2018 Tomb Raider movie, where a movie was so bad, she hasn't started in anything else that's noteworthy except for The Green Knight, and currently is back to doing independent movies. Yep, never forget that the awful 2018 movie killed her career with shitty decisions.

Black is the foundation of the show. All the characters and plots seem to derive from that entry. Both John Doe and Raven are exclusive to Black, Agent Smith is presumably the Black version, and Sweet Tooth is based on Black. Yes, the show is tonally off, but it is pretty clear they are just MCU-ifying the darkest game. Hilariously, I think the plot would flow better if the inspirations were taken from literally any other game.

Depends on version. Preacher came back in 2012 where he was mainly there to oppose Calypso, removing much of the dark shit. Sort of a weird take, kinda seemed like they took Preacher and made him Mortimer from prior games, likely because they look the same.

Mr. Grimm is either too cartoony or too violent for the vibe the show is aiming for.
They can just do the 2012 incarnation where he was just a biker trying to save his dad. Honestly, surprised Mackey isn’t 2012 Mr. Grimm, it would have been an easy plot to adapt and make him heroic, plus the character was already black.

Really thinking about it, they easily could have just mixed 2012 plots to make the story. Have Grimm’s dad die in a car crash caused by Sweet Tooth. Sweet Tooth assumes he killed both, till he is notified that Grimm is alive and trying to undo his work. This can then play into his 2012 character of ‘finishing the job’ as he chases down Grimm to kill him. Hell, replace the girlboss OC with 2012 Preacher as well. He can just be helping Grimm to get to Calypso.

Why Doe? He should've been Axel or Outlaw from Black.
Amnesia plot. That is the only reason. Once again, he also could have just been Grimm.

Raven is awesome and I will fight you if you disagree.
I don’t disagree. It is just weird to have this character that only appeared in one title as one of the very few cast members. Same goes for Doe.
