Police Told Hayley Kiyoko She Couldn’t Bring Drag Queens On Stage in Nashville

Hayley Kiyoko has spoken out after being told she couldn’t bring drag queens on stage due to a new Tennessee law banning some drag performances.

The “Girls Like Girls” singer posted a video to Instagram on Monday night, just before she was set to go on stage at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works. She shared that she had been “upset, but now this is just unbelievable.”

“I am getting ready for my show tonight and was really excited to bring out some incredible drag performances,” Kiyoko said. Tearing up, she explained that she was confronted by an undercover cop during sound check and told that because her show was all ages, she couldn’t feature drag performers. “So we’re trying to figure out if there’s a workaround or what the situation is, but this is fucked up,” she added.

Tennessee recently enacted the nation’s first ban on drag performances, which prohibits “adult cabaret performances” (including drag shows) from taking place in public, or anywhere where they could be seen by a minor. A first violation of the law is a misdemeanor offense with a potential jail sentence of 11 months and 29 days; subsequent violations are counted as felonies with a prison sentence of up to six years and a fine of up to $3,000.

The Tennessee law was temporarily blocked by a federal judge for violating the First Amendment in April, just days before it was set to be enacted; that injunction is set to expire May 26. The plaintiffs in the suit argued that the law unconstitutionally restricts speech and that it is overly vague. Although the bill classifies drag shows as “adult cabaret performances,” that term itself is not clearly defined. Since the law is the first of its kind, these vague definitions worried advocates, who feared that any drag performance (or display of public gender non-conformity) could be interpreted as obscene by law enforcement.

It’s unclear why Kiyoko was approached by police regarding her show’s drag performances despite the judge’s injunction in the law’s enforcement. Yet Kiyoko proceeded to bring the drag performers — Lady LiberTea and Ivy St. James — on stage as planned anyway. In her Instagram caption, the singer wrote that the queens arrived 10 minutes before the show was set to start, and that she told them about the legal concerns. But the performers “showed no fear and said they wanted to continue with the show and come out on stage.”

The singer finished her Instagram caption by writing, “I never want to put anyone in a position to be at risk or in danger in any way. But also where is the line of being silenced? How do we navigate these absurd threats and laws against our community?”

“I find pride in making sure my concerts are safe places for ALL,” she continued. “How can I do that if we aren’t allowed to be ourselves, especially at a predominantly queer concert? We deserve to have a safe space to be ourselves while we navigate the evil that is threatening our own existence.”

I never want to put anyone in a position to be at risk - I just want to expose minors to degenerate men doing sexualized dances dressed as sexualized female caricatures. Stop oppressing me!

The weirdest part is that there's no point to what she planned except controversy. It's highly doubtful she's ever employed drag queens in any of her other performances, and she must have known what she was planning was already outlawed in Tennessee.

As a matter of fact, how do we know this wasn't a fabricated story? The law isn't in effect yet because it was blocked by a federal judge, and they have no statement from the police department of the alleged undercover cop.

GOOD. Bring back drag as a subculture where it belongs.

I honestly don't know why these degenerates aren't outraged at being Disneyfied. If they're training five year olds to be drag queens, what's subversive about it, you utterly brain dead child fucking faggots.

Oh, yeah . They want to fuck kids.

I almost forgot.

Why on Earth are these people adamant to have drag shows in view for CHILDREN?
James Lindsay has a very interesting but very long podcast going into all the queer theory and historical explanation. The upshot is that they want to groom children to be both sexual deviants and a permanent leftist activist class.

There's also the more obvious but less talked about point that they're pedos.

I was giving her the benefit of the doubt until

Sorry, girl who I've never heard of before, but fair is fair. Either keep children away from your show or keep your show really PG.

Either way, I doubt her music is for kids.

Think of them as parasitic space aliens whose sole means of reproduction is infecting native earthlings. Particularly susceptible to the invaders are some of the planet's most vulnerable, children, adolescents, and the autistic. It's only logical to target the relatively defenseless through the path of least resistance to bolster their vile ranks. Their greatest adversary, ironically not earthly but rather heavenly, is true Christianity. Genuine acceptance of God makes any native earthling nigh-invulnerable to their mechanisms, hence their rabid hostility towards it.

I genuinely miss when things were just subcultures instead of something that got latched onto by large group of normie retards looking to politicize something. They used to be a lot more niche, and if they were “adult” they would be kept from most of the public eye and would be performed at venues that catered to said sub-cultures, usually at night when most kids and regular people are home after school or work. You had to go out of your way to actually look for it, rather than having it being shoved in your face. Drag can be quite fetish-y. It is in no way or shape fit for children.

As somebody who’s been into many of what was once obscure interests and pastimes, fuck normalizing this shit

I was literally on a Rocky Horror cast for ages
grossest example of underage lolwat was that there was a girl on cast who was like, 14 or so but her mom was a long-time RHPS regular, and always kept in-sight of her daughter excluding _very_ select circumstances, like, hitting the can or "xyzpdq guard the door, she's changing" and although nobody got into the details out of tact, apparently it was highly unlikely that the kid would make it to 18, so nobody made a fuss about her playing Janet. She was very wise to what the score was and made sure to double-bag anything important.
our cast even did the local town halloween night parade downtown, but even then Frank only showed some leg from under the cape and everybody else was very street legal
at no point did anybody say "you know what would be cool? Rocky Horror Preschool Show!"
