A man accused of rape was brutally murdered with his penis cut off and stuffed in his mouth.
The man's naked body was also put on display, found hanging by the feet from a steel structure over a road.
The gruesome scene horrified locals in Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico, when it was discovered earlier this week.
A piece of cardboard was found attached to the body explaining he had been killed because he was a rapist.
The message read: "This was his fate for being a rapist and may this happen to all the f*****g pigs."
According to La Voz Del Pueblo, an organisation covering organised crime activity in Mexico, the sign specified he was being punished for raping "a five-year-old girl".
His corpse appeared covered in blood, his severed penis rammed into his mouth.
According to La Parada Digital, the scene was first discovered by a group of travellers making their way along the road in the early hours of the morning, driving from Casas Grandes to the town of Colonia Juárez.
Police are yet to identify the murdered man. All that is known at this time is he is between 35 and 40-years-old, approximately 5ft7in or 5ft8in tall and has short hair.
It remains unclear who is responsible for displaying the body, but the use of the sign could suggest one of Mexico's drug cartels was involved.
The signs, known as 'narcomantas', are often left next to dumped corpses to explain why that particular person has been killed. Examples in the past have mentioned anything from stealing to betraying a cartel.
