There's an industry that exists behind the gay rights movement and when Obergfell happened there was no reason left for them to exist.... they had won.
Because they had won, they were faced with two options:
1: Take the W, go home and bask in their victory (because there was nothing left to fight for and, as such, the funding was going to dry up).
2: Take their existing infrastructure and push for a new cause (in this case, trannies).
The problem with Option 2 is that during the time between 2013 until about 2018, nobody really cared about trannies. Sure, they were weird and they caught some sideeye when out in public, but nobody really gave a fuck about them. They were weird, rare and nobody cared about them.
The thing about these organizations is that they don't function well in 'peacetime'... they sell themselves as standing against oppression and people rolling their eyes at you isn't really oppression. So they had to amp it up and what better way to do it than start fucking with people's kids.
"Here's a boy in a miniskirt that's going to compete against your daughter in some sport and may take a scholarship away.... Oh, you don't like that, so you're a bigot?".
"Here's a graphic novel with teenagers fellating strapons.... Oh you don't want that in your kid's Jr. High Library? Are you a Nazi? I bet you are, you book burning Nazi."
One of the things that the left has done so well (really since Obama) is make people misconstrue disagreement with bigotry. That's a powerful weapon that they have wielded masterfully. You have to follow the dogma and if you don't, then you are some combination of '-phobe' or '-ist'. Ideas that were socially acceptable (and even mainstream) just a few years ago are now no longer acceptable and the new dogma must be accepted immediately. It pushed moderates, like me, a little further out of the center but it also kept me quiet (because I have a mortgage and I like paying it).
It was actually humming along pretty swimmingly and they were getting bolder. I've literally seen them argue that "If you won't date a trans person, you're a transphobe", unironically.
Then they fucked up. They put Dylan Mulvaney, who's a weird fucker to begin with and makes videos aimed at children, in an ad (which supposedly was done because they wanted a high rating on the Human Rights Commission's DEI index) and that pissed Joe Six-Pack off. Joe isn't particularly politically engaged and just wants to grab some beer to take with him fishing on the weekend. That being said, he's aware of what's going on with this tranny shit, finds it distasteful but really just wants to go on with his day. But now the beer he drinks, and has drank for 20 years, is now associated with tranny shit (and maybe, he thinks, "My money is going to fund this nonsense")... so, he starts buying another brand of beer on the way home from the plant. He orders a Miller instead of a Bud at Happy Hour. It's not controversial, he's just opting out.
But here's the weird thing, a lot of people have the exact same reaction and Bud Light's sales fall into the toilet (20% the first week, another 20% the next, etc. etc.) Now it's starting to affect the bottom line. This isn't a top down boycott.... this is coming from the bottom. The brand is becoming (or has become) toxic and they have no plan to get out of it (apparently they're partnering with Harley, because... Yeah, I don't fucking know. I like riding my FXST, but I don't want to fuck with the Tranny on that thing either).
The folks at the bottom have power and they're starting to realize it. Enter Target, who in their infinite wisdom, decided to put a Pride display at the front of their store, complete with Pride Onesies (for babies), clothes that help bind adolescent girls breasts, swimsuits that allow for boys to conceal their junk while wearing a girl's one-piece swimsuit and just decided to partner with a literal Tranny Satanist. They can't backpedal publicly, lest they lose their beloved DEI score, but they have to try to mitigate it as quietly as possible and walk the tight rope (lest they too get their turn in the barrel). They've already lost a few billion in stock value.... I suspect the pain is just beginning.
