The antithesis to this writer's room shit these lunatics are fighting for, is beloved Simpsons writer John Swartzwelder.

He was a writer for The Simpsons in the classic era (bleeding over a bit into the early suck era), having written 59 full episodes and contributed to more. Some of his episodes include the Bad Dream House segment of the first Treehouse of Horror, Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish, Itchy & Scratchy & Marge, Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes?, Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie, Whacking Day, Krusty Gets Kancelled, Rosebud, Bart Gets an Elephant, Radioactive Man, You Only Move Twice, Homer vs the Eighteenth Amendment, Homer's Enemy.... Oh, and contributing lyrics to Spider-pig from the movie. The list goes on.
The wiki article is worth a read on its own, but in summary, John bounced around in the 80s, writing for SNL and a few other small things before finally landing on The Simpsons. A copious smoker, he was granted to *not* be in the writer's room because of his smoking, and just allowed those in the writer's room to rewrite his work as they saw fit. (And in general, his work didn't need as much of a rewrite.) He would typically write from this period on in a coffe shop. When Commiefornia passed a no-smoking ban in public, he literally bought the booth he would sit in so he could write from home. (In a 2021 interview, he said it had nothing to do with smoking, and that he bought a new booth. I like the legend better.)
But guess what? He wasn't a shitlib:
Swartzwelder has been referred to as a libertarian, as well as a "hard-core conservative". He is a gun rights advocate, and despite having written many of the environmentally themed Simpsons episodes, he has been described as an "anti-environmentalist". David Cohen once related a story of Swartzwelder going on an extended diatribe about how there is more rainforest on Earth now than there was 100 years ago.
So even in the mid 90s, the funniest man in the room, was already being chased out (or at least negotiating an out) to get away from the libs. And in general, his work didn't need a full room of 10-20 knuckle-draggers to improve his work (although obviously his work had some rewrites).
I need to find Pistol Pete now...
Edit: Oh, it's on his website:
