I watched Extraordinary Attorney Woo on Netflix recently, and I noticed that a lot of episodes seemed to end with messages about legal reconciliation and the law eventually working out for all parties. This is a totally bizarre twist for me - legal dramas are supposed to conclude with the defendant breaking his shackles as he's found not guilty, or getting dragged away after he loses his temper and bellows that he's glad he murdered the victim.

If anything, from the mid to late 2010’s to now, what South Korea is going through is what the same thing Hong Kong went through during the late 1990’s and early to mid-2000’s. Only difference is that HK is more sympathetic to those that don’t want to see it get taken over by the Chinese government.

South Korea, on the other hand, still wants to mend relationships with the North Korean government. Plus, considering the fact that the “best Korea” meme is still going on right now, it’s safe to say that Americans are only liking the mainstream accepted and predictable forms of their media, when compared to the likes HK and Japan.

I don’t see most Americans (unlike myself) digging deeper as to why this country is more so unique as far as being a cultural catalyst to the rest of North America and abroad.

The Hallyu Wave, was mandated by the South Korean Government, to spread South Korean culture throughout the Western World. The South Korean Government subsides and supports much of the Kpop industry. Why do you think South Korean TV stations has most shows already translated when they appear on Youtube? Go look up another country that does that. With almost everything.

The bizarre thing a linguist brought up. Korea has one of the most elegantly simple alphabets in the world. However the language itself, is so hard, the Linguistics Association is pondering whether to put Korean in it's own higher, sole difficulty category. No wonder you hear people in Korean media use English for shorthand so much in sentences. But they are still using Korean syntax. So hearing people start a sentence with something like "The end" is a bit jarring.

K-pop is definitely a psyop in the Islamic world. Speaking as someone in Indonesia, the world's largest majority Muslim nation, during Ramadan to top it off. I see many hijabi women here watching K-pop music vids at cafes and such, and most of my Islamic female friends here in Indonesia dream of moving to Korea for work/marriage as a result of the "reality" they're presented with by K-pop and K-dramas.

I ask people why they want to move there, and they say "you have freedom, everyone is happy" ... of course the "white skin" (lie) of Koreans is also discussed... there are many koreaboos here with a very shallow understanding of Korean culture in the same way that the typical weeaboo here doesn't know anything about Japan outside of doraemon, dragon ball, one piece, naruto, etc.

In fairness, the first and second example here are pretty different lol. The latter is leaving a country that's currently being ravaged by war, the former is just dumb (I assume fat) bitches being dumb.

I don't take into account their personal circumstances. Just that they were both fed an image of a foreign country, they believed it, and when they arrived, it was nothing like what they thought.

Same in Turkey. They dislike the Western culture because of openness about sex, alcohol etc. but want to live in a developed country. At my high school alone there were many hijabi Koreaboos. This was in the mid-2010s, the number has probably increased since then.
 
I knew a bit about K-pop before it really exploded in America, and it seemed to really blow up when Gangnam Style started getting played on the radio. Gangnam Style was wild, I don't think I even heard about it until it had already hit one billion views, it being the first video to do so. It was EVERYWHERE back in 2012.

That, plus how Christendom just doesn't have boy bands/girl groups anymore seemed to open the door wide for Korean groups to take over. J-pop never seemed to really leave nerd circles. I'm sure Ayumi Hamasaki's most viewed video doesn't hold a candle next to Blackpink's most viewed.

edit, it doesn't. something called "DDU-DU DDU-DU" by Blackpink has 2.07 billion views while Ayumi Hamasaki's "M" has only 29 million. Most viewed J-pop video I could think of was Babymetal's "Gimme Chocolate!!" which sits at only 177 million.
