So it sounds like the only real way to really change anything (or hope to do so) is to just either completely separate yourself by society, or just accelerate society to total collapse and go full on "burn it all down and start the game of thrones to becone the one true king of the ashes"....by going through things wholeheartedly that the Thunderdome would say is the stuff glow traps are made of, thus demoralizing anyone fro doing anything.
And the ONLY thing saving the average revolutionary or protestor from the weapons at the disposal of the government is the government's reluctance to use them.
It is by and large not the parishioners who have done that, but the ecclesiastical hierarchy. If the parishioners didn't care, there would have been no need to shuffle offending priests around to congregations that didn't know their history (essentially giving them new victims), a practice that after decades has more or less stopped.
Saying that the idea of the Second Amendment is that civilians are just going to charge a tank battalion with handguns is ridiculous. Let's just say those people have homes, sleep, etc. and we know where they live. Not fedposting, just pointing out that an armed population is very difficult to subdue. Way more likely than a boogaloo is they simply continue the current bread and circuses approach. Fat Americans are lazy, but hungry Americans would be much less so.
The slow cooking approach works even against the most well armed population. However as an outsider looking in the US seems to be pretty sturdy on a lot of fundamentals.
Yeah, the only mildly on-topic thing about this, I suppose, is that there are structural reasons the U.S. is unlikely to get even as bad as the UK is right now, and it's big enough there will always be room to move out in the boonies if you just can't put up with the bughives any more.
i am envious of the Americans for having the ability to disappear to the woods and live in the states like Washington (or those surrounded by nature). For the Brits, we escape to Europe, but with Germany, france, Spain and Italy turning into the same shit holes that we're escaping from, it leaves us only with Eastern Europe. NZ, Aus and Canada are no good either.
