Goodbye Volcano High - "The Future of Gaming", The Parody Game of the Beloved Snoot Game Franchise

I'm only late by a few days but I wanna post about the 4 chapters featured in Wani.

Holy shit is this good, not even from a story of just being better than GVH but also on a technical level.
One of the opening scenes is on the subway. Do you notice the simple animations to generate a lifeness to it. Not all the game is like this unfortunately but it's much better than a still CG.

You've got Ben's introduction here, where it focuses on his back, then he turns around to a shot of his face. It's all animated because they could.

Then you actually get to the introduction of Olivia and that's also animated. And that look she gives Inko, kind of the same yet different to the one Fang gave Anon.

The Dodgeball segment and the various references brought up over the story is honestly funny. Mia grew out of Bully Naomi if I recall from the fan art post Snoot game release.

Love the shades joke

In history class, you're given the chance to doodle. I went a bit overboard.

More dodgeball and history class shenanigans

The 4th chapter, the barbeque might be my favorite simply because you get to see more of Damian's family and see Inko spend time with Olivia.

And then Inko convinces Olivia to come back outside.

Inko gets this touching scene, not understanding the context but knowing that he did something right. That his optimistic outlook actually did something right for once.

This final scene, of Olivia getting her hug from her godparents. Could you see how GVH wouldn't even have anything as powerful as this? For all the pronouns and Id-Pol it will have, it will not have a touching moment like this. And that's why Caveanon is superior.

I also notice that Olivia's plot has a few elements of Rin's from Katawa, even overlooking the disability. They both struggle with an art contest, they have some from of trouble that stops them from painting, they both receive outside help that gets them through their problems. I don't mind, Olivia feels like her own person. I wonder if she's a metalhead some of the fanart made her out to be.

I'm skipping a few good scenes like establishing interactions between the friend group of Ben, Liz, Damien and Olivia for instance but for what's here, there's alot to like. Releasing the demo to preempt the GVH launch is just a victory lap at this stage.
Can't wait for the full game

Started playing the demo, enjoying it so far. The bits with animation are fantastic, completely took me for a ride when it pans out from Ben and Inco to look at Olivia.

Do hope there are multiple routes since it's what I usually enjoy in these sorts of games and that they don't all rotate around Olivia. For now she is an autistic sped but I expect to change my tune in the future, but wouldn't mind a Liz or Mia path.

Also like the character designs, very colorful but don't hurt my eyes.

Also, professor Solly is a total bro even if Inco hasn't noticed yet.

Sorry for double post but hope a day difference makes it alright.

Finished the Gator demo. Loving it for now. The cut off point is fantastic. Really keen on seeing the final product and it managed to make Olivia pretty likeable even if she started very surly.

Does remind me a bit of Katawa Shoujo's Emi route, keeping with the obvious similarity that they are both artists, but they are also hard to engage and don't seem to be seeing "the same world" as others.

I can never remember the name of this game and I always find myself calling it something close. Like "So Long Dino High" or something. Visual novels are one of those types of game where I just don't get why you'd ever wanna play some pozzed American thing when you've got a zillion other VNs of all different genres and types. Want a cool sci-fi one? There's tons. Want a dating sim, gay, straight or otherwise? There's so, so many. Want one with supernatural shit or fantasy or whatever and there's so many. Is the weaboo demographic really crying out for more ugly dinosaurs or games with nogs?

She got done dirty, her route is so lame compared to the rest.
Which is actually the reason why I like her the best, she's got her shit sorted and she's the one girl who doesn't fall into either the Broken Bird or the Doting Mother niche. She's goal driven, focused, and more than willing to give you, the player character, some tough love to help your character better himself.

A new trailer of GVH was just shown on the Tribeca Games Showcase stream, which is currently still going as I type this (it ended when I uploaded the vid), but I managed to screen record the part where they came on. Also adds the 4 people from KO_OP describing the game.

Two Things To Note:
  1. It was originally going to be a dating sim, but they scrapped the idea to make it more "anime"
  2. Devs say you're not really playing as Fang but more her inner monologue, so Fang in this game might be a schizo.

Most of this stuff was addressed in the QnA they hosted last month, and most of the footage wasn't even new. The few clips of new footage were only a few seconds long, as well. It was such a non-happening that it wasn't announced in the KO_OP discord, and it hasn't been mentioned by a single user in it.
