US Portland, Oregon Megathread - Tales from The Rose City

Didn't see much of a thread regarding all the fine antics of Portland and the people who live there, so I thought to make one.

Lesbian bar shuts down one week after opening because they weren't woke enough

Doc Marie’s is a lesbian bar that opened on July 1st of this year with the hope of bringing more inclusivity to the city of Portland. But just one week after their grand opening they were forced to shut down because of complaints that the bar was not a “safe space.” Similar to the story I wrote a few weeks ago about the queer-owned cafe in Philadelphia that was shut down by employees for not being woke enough, Doc Marie’s was cannibalized by the woke mob.

The crowd on opening day was huge. One woman said that the line for entry on opening night was “wrapped around the block” with “literally 200 lesbians” waiting to get in.

But the excitement about a new progressive hangout dissipated quickly. Within days, Doc Marie’s found itself on the receiving end of accusations of not being inclusive enough for trans people and people of color. Despite mask mandates being lifted in Portland, patrons accused the bar of not implementing enough COVID safety measures. Patrons also claimed that Doc Marie’s had “culturally appropriative art” on the walls.
One TikToker, who says she attended the grand opening, breaks down the accusations against the bar:

Employees of Doc Marie’s created an Instagram page to echo these concerns. They claimed that the owners weren’t proactive enough in creating a safe space and accused the owners of racism. The employees also demanded that the bar host “free opportunities for education” for the community.

Eventually, the employees demanded the owners relinquish ownership of the bar and hand the business to them. The owners were given a “24-hour deadline” to adhere to the ludicrous demands.

Just five days after opening, the bar announced on July 6th that they had to close temporarily in order to address the cries from the woke mob for a “safe and inclusive space.”

Surrendering to the woke mob doesn’t appear to be working out in Doc Marie’s favor, as the bar remains closed with no public plan to reopen.

Sad News Everyone.
Drag Queen Storytime in Tigard(suburb of Portland) has been CANCELLED.

It appears the threats of violence are from ANTIFA against the usual people who protest these events. That's what, a reverse Uno?

Brilliant self own. Not only is ANTIFA responsible for more threats of violence than transphobic bigots once again but also the protesters got exactly what they wanted, cancelled child grooming drag queen story time.

As usual Andy Ngo comes through with the documentation of said antifa antics:

Sleep well.

You can tell all the defenders of Drag Queen Story Hour have never actually been to one. Look at that thing. What sane parent would want that dude reading to their kid? What kid would actually want to be around that IRL?
Exactly. If I had children and they were misbehaving I'd threaten to take them to Drag Queen Story Hour.

I dislike clowns, and think that has bled over into my lizard brain revulsion of everything drag related.

Child literacy is beyond vital, and allowing these fucking creeps to colonize library spaces, especially when the central library downtown is in the midst of a transient friendly makeover makes me slightly top hatted.

If one kid is scared from a lifelong love of reading by these odious woman facers, it's too many.

Developer pulls out of Portland after four decades: 'What does a property owner do?'

PORTLAND, Ore. — Ask Kevin Howard how he feels about Portland, and his emotions run the gamut, but he's mostly frustrated as he pushed open the fence to his final slice of the city.

"This property was listed in January of 2021 for $795,000. Yesterday we sold it for $412,000," said Howard.

A significant loss, but Howard says he had nothing left in the tank. The tiny piece of property off Southeast Powell Boulevard, a former pizza parlor, has been a nightmare for the past three years.

"The supposed homeless came in and kicked in the door, the front door, and lived in it," said Howard. "And I waited until they came out, and I had to board it up."

But Howard says that didn't do much. They just broke in again and again, living inside and outside, even in his dumpster enclosure which they eventually set on fire. Howard says he got nowhere when he called the police.

"I said, 'Well, what does a homeowner do? What does a property owner do?' and they said, 'Call Central City Concern,'" said Howard. "I said "What will they do?' and they said, 'Well, they'll probably come out and give them a cup of coffee and some hot soup.'"

Howard looked into hiring a security guard, but that was too expensive at roughly $15,000 a month. So, he decided to get a fence, but the wait was four months.

"I said, 'Why?' and they said, 'Because homeowners like mad are fencing their property to keep the, you know, the drug addicts and the homeless out,'" said Howard.

So, the trash piled up, and Howard tried to keep up, but it wasn't enough. Last summer, the city hit him with a nuisance fine of nearly $540.

Howard paid the fine.

A month later, he got an even bigger bill, the original amount plus a penalty. The city told him they had lost his check. So, he paid the bill again, plus the extra $100.

"Two weeks later, they sent me another bill for 639 dollars and 71 cents," said Howard. "I called them up, and they said, "Well, this might be a duplicate bill, but we've already put a lien on your property."

The fence was finally installed, and Howard was able to clean up the property and eventually get the lien removed, but the drama dragged on for more than six months.

"I just remember the phrase 'The City That Works,'" said Howard. "The city that jerks, I mean, how can you be this dysfunctional?"

KATU News reached out to the bureau that fined Howard, Development Services. They confirmed there was an error, telling us "the issue was resolved" and "there's no outstanding balanced owed." We also asked Mayor Ted Wheeler's office for an interview. Wheeler has been vocal about improving livability, reducing taxes and fees, and restoring people's faith in Portland. A spokesman told us the Bureau of Development Services is not under Mayor Wheeler's Portfolio. Commissioner Carmen Rubio's office did not get back to us.

Kevin Howard shook his head as he walked through his now-former property.

"In the last year, 23,000 dollars. 13,000 for the fence, then there's the graffiti cleanup, painting the building," said Howard.

He spent $23,000 in one year just to manage the mess. But Howard, who founded Northwest Self Storage and owned 70 properties over the past four decades, says it isn't about this one address. This was just the last straw.

"I've been all over the world. I lived in Australia for a couple of years. I've been to all 50 states and all over," said Howard. "I came back to Portland, and I came back to Oregon because I loved it. I loved the people, the greenery, the lifestyle."

Shit like this is what's going to break people. How much in fines do the homeless encampments pay? How much in property taxes? How devalued have properties around the city become due to having a bunch of violent druggies on the sidewalk?

I am surprised some enterprising group isn't using them as unpaid labor in part of a protection racket. Tell business owners, "hey pay us $X,000/mo under the table and we can make this problem go away". You see campers in the lots of people who pay you, you tell them "you show up here again and there's gonna be trouble, tell all your faggot friends there won't be second warnings". Then you begin beating the everloving fuck out of anyone who camps in those lots, sweeping up the trash, and piling it in the lots of places that don't pay you. Fuck, nobody would notice if you put a few rounds in repeat offenders, or just laid packets of fentanyl around like rat poison, what are they gonna do aside from add it to the list of statistics and dump the bodies in the Willamette? There are a bunch of gangs in NE bix nooding anyway, this is free income they're leaving on the table.

When he says "the lifestyle" he means sucking nigger cocks.

The activists and their allies in the lugenpresse will make that a front page story thereby forcing a police investigation.

I have written off such cities.

  • The population bitches and moans about the problems.
  • City leadership finally relents by ramping up enforcement action.
  • Cops make a mistake in a high pressure situation.
  • Bug hive dwellers and liberals do some faggoty activism for their own self aggrandizement or clot.
  • City descends into shit.
  • Bug hivers conveniently "forget" their previous anti cop stance.
  • Begin bitching about problem and possibly move to start the cycle over again.
They're like locust.

That only works in places like Brazil or South Africa. You have to be able to bribe police and politicians so they don't crack down on your operation, and the Portland cops are some of the best paid in the country thanks to being perpetually understaffed and getting a fuckton of overtime. Government loves shutting shit down like that since it let's them claim they're actually doing something about the problem plus they get to help their precious hobos.

Portland, and Oregon in general is probably the worst possible place. Portland is less than 6% black, Oregon only 2%. He'd be better served somewhere nice like Oakland, CA at 24%.
It's 90% troon. Antifa has deep roots in Portland.

Portland was a nice city not that long ago. I wouldn't drive through it now if I could avoid it.

Ok, this is the funniest shit ever.
For reference Portland is mostly in Multnomah County.

Sadly they did not include Mother Nature, God or anyone else in their lawsuit.

The only winners will be the lawyers. The losers, as usual, the taxpayers, but they should be used to the county pissing away their money by now. I assume they asked their lawyers "Can we sue these oil companies with hordes of lawyers and infinite money." and their lawyers, seeing dollar signs, said "Absolutely"

Are we allowed to post Seattle stories in this thread? They're both basically the Sodom and Gomorrah of the Pacific Northwest at this point.

Washingtonians fed up as ODs claim over 2,750 lives in soft-on-drugs state

Drug overdose deaths are skyrocketing in the Northwest, causing woke Washingtonians to rethink their soft stance on punishing drug dealers and abusers, who are legally allowed to shoot up on the streets of Seattle.

Washington state now has the fastest-rising drug overdose rate of any state, soaring to 21.9% over the last 12-month period ending Jan. 31, when 2,799 overdoses were reported, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The study also says those numbers are underreported and the state predicts the true figure to be 2,850 deaths, which would be a 24% increase in one year.

The next closest state is Maine, which reported 716 overdose deaths, an increase of just under 18% year-on-year.

Even those who have been personally affected by the fentanyl crisis gripping Washington are shocked by the numbers, but quickly acknowledge cracks in the system.

“The 12-Step Plan doesn’t work for someone like my son who had mental health issues,” said Bellingham, Wash., resident Laurie Satushek, who lost her 29-year old son, Mick, to a fentanyl overdose in April.

“Tough love doesn’t work with people who are mentally ill like my son. They could care less if you arrest them for a misdemeanor or whether it’s a felony.

“All that is doing is costing taxpayers money to have people in jail. There has to be reinforcement and constant supervision, because without that, none of it will work. It’s just a big waste because they will die without rules.”

While lawmakers finally passed a drug reform policy that makes drug use and possession a gross misdemeanor in the state, some cities like Seattle have languished back and forth.

The Seattle City Council voted two weeks ago to ultimately reject the state’s public drug use legislation that would’ve allowed the city to prosecute people who are using drugs in public.
However, 55% of people polled said they still support lesser charges compared to what was passed by the state legislature.

Other smaller cities, including Bellingham — known as the “most hippie” town in the state — have taken a tougher stance. The city council of the liberal town of 90,000 residents voted in April to make it a crime to “inject, ingest or inhale” drugs in public.

The city council’s decision to get tougher on drugs was spurred in part by the death of a 5-year-old girl — which led to the arrest of her parents and another person, who have all since been charged with murder — and two teen deaths.

In July 2022, two men were caught smuggling 91,000 fentanyl pills into Bellingham by using potato chip containers and boxes.

Homeland Security Investigations Pacific Northwest, assisted by the Whatcom County sheriff, arrested Alejandro Macias-Velazquez and Juan E. Hernandez-Hernandez after it was discovered the men had connections to a criminal organization that helped the duo import the illegal drugs.

Agents found 10 kilograms of fentanyl stuffed inside cardboard boxes and empty Lay’s Stax potato chip containers that were delivered to Hernandez-Hernandez in Bellingham.

Authorities arrested Macias-Velazquez as he arrived to deliver the duffel bag full of fentanyl pills.

The drug arrests and overdoses have shaken Bellingham so much that city leaders and drug prevention experts have planned a two-day summit on June 27 and 28 to discuss the growing problem in their small town.
Laurie Satushek, a realtor in Bellingham, said she is one of the panelists participating in the symposium.

Satushek said she hopes to have a frank discussion about how the system failed her son and others like him who struggled with mental health and drug addiction.

Mick had struggled with schizophrenia for more than a decade and had become homeless. Even when his family rallied to get him out of state treatment, Mick couldn’t escape his drug addiction.

Satushek said it was agonizing to see her son ignored in the ER only to be released without support a few days later. Since her son was an adult, Satushek said, she often was not provided important medical information or where he was released.

She would later find her son living in the streets and hopped up on drugs.

Mick was found dead on April 5 after he overdosed at the town’s Arne Hanna Aquatic Center. Coroners confirmed he died of an overdose of meth and fentanyl, Satushek said.

“This is exploding and clearly we need to start over and re-evaluate what we are doing,” Satushek told The Post.
“Even as much money and education my husband and I have, and as much support we tried to give Mick, it just wasn’t enough.

“My son had mental health issues and was a drug addict, and there was no way he could’ve survived because of the lack of support and services. He was really doomed to die.”
