Thunderf00t / Phil Mason - Single manbaby, angry atheist/anti-feminist Youtuber, attention whore

Thunderf00t is 100% right on Musk, but only so many times you can make that video before you are just repeating yourself and it comes petty and lazy. It's like the people who make video after video on Kathleen Kennedy and the Last Jedi, just got to move on to fresh topics at some point.
He's right about a lot of the shit on Musk, as Musk's core skill is peddling bullshit and hoping it works out enough that a minimal product is delivered and it can't be called a scam despite not meeting almost any of the real selling points. The problem is, Thunderf00t will also blindly quote things that are easily fact checked to be wrong to own Musk, which shows how petty it is, as he's just trying to own Musk at all costs when you can easily do so by pointing out the big things and not jumping on media bullshit trains.

Same with praising people like Fatrick, there are way better options than shacking up with piggy in mutual hatred. You'd think he'd have learned to keep better company after the Kraut gay ops Discord fiasco, where he claimed to not know how to even use Discord, despite having a video previously where he talks about how easy it is to use and set up Discord to dunk on Anita.

The main issue is how obsessed he is with it and how one-sided, which is not typical for what should be a logic&reason driven chemistry scientist. It's like the gorrillionth "feminists dumb/Anita Sarkeesian looks at Batman butts" video, but now he's focused on another subject. Gets boring. Have higher expectations from TF to be honest.

I've stopped watching all Thunderf00t content after he became an extreme faggot about Trump & Brexit.
Since this means you used to watch him before he started talking about Trump and Brexit,, I have to ask: how did you put up with his incredibly smug way of speaking? It almost seems like a speech disorder, like that woman in Virginia who got brain damage that made is sound like she was doing a fake British/Australian accent all the time.

I don't think that's his biggest flaw by far. The most grating things for me are his unbalanced audio between his speech and the 2000s memes sound effects he uses (like the car crash) and his constant repetition of points he's already made in the video and already made in all the past three videos.

And if you do find him annoying, consider his contemporaries: the r/atheism scene and Sargon. He's the most tolerable member of possibly the smugest online movement to exist: Britbong intellectuals (and pseudo-intellectuals).

EDIT: and I think he can be redeemed if he'd call out the troonery and retardation of current year, he was probably the most respectable critic of Anita Sarkeesian back in the day and his voice would really help in spreading common sense now, though Brexit and Trump seems to have deranged him a fair bit.

*cue "SOLAR. FREAKING. ROADWAYS!" clip for the thousand time*

The betting odds for a "Blunderf00t lonely death" is four digits at this point. A concerned party needs to intervene, even if it's just to smash his computer and cut off Internet access on his property.

He got called out for misrepresenting Anita Sarkeesian of all people via his obnoxious editing. He really was just the first gen X science graduate to make semi-competent videos about creationism.

That’s the fate of all really nerdy brits. They age so badly that their window closes in an instant.

Thunderf00t isn't a Britbong intellectual by any stretch of the imagination. We don't tend to think of people with a science background as being intellectuals at all. (I think that's probably true of all of Europe.)

Their interests are far too narrow and their argument style is way too pedantic.
Here's a list from 2004 of the top 100 British intellectuals of that time. I think they went out of their way to include scientists in their shortlist but there's actually hardly a scientist among them.

Or try this one from The Guardian. Of Britain's top 300 intellectuals, just 12 are scientists. Compare that with the number of historians or journalists.

oo idk. British Intellectual life is so desolate that I think adding more scientists would be an improvement! If Mary Beard is on there, arguing that Roman Britain was as Black as Compton, then why not Thunderf00t.

I don't disagree with your general point. My claim was descriptive, not normative. We just tend not to think of scientists in that bracket.

Also, Mary Beard is as mad as a box of frogs, but she's *still* more interesting than Thunderf00t. Your archetypal post-doc lab donkey is not an considered an intellectual in any country anywhere. The man who came to fix my cooker yesterday would be better qualified as an intellectual than Thunderf00t.

Yeah, honestly, the more I think about it the less qualified Thunderf00t is since none of his content is positive. It’s all just about how stupid X,Y, or Z is.

The problem is when people think of scientists they either think media mad scientists which don't exist or Manhattan Project scientists who were very eccentric. The reality most scientists aren't that intellectual, they're just very tedious.

More so, a lot of times the scientists aren't the ones who contribute to society, but rather whoever wrangles them and often times they'd not have gone down their specific research route without said wrangler. There's no shortage of discoveries and inventions that were revolutionary but sat around doing nothing until someone saw them and decided to do something with them. Hell, the Native Americans invented the wheel without being introduced to it by other cultures, but never applied it to any industrial use and only used it for toys so they effectively didn't have the wheel as technology in their societies which is mind numbingly stupid of them.

A scientist who knows how to communicate scientific ideas and the history of science is probably of much better intellectual caliber than any historian or humanities guru though.

This still excludes Phil here but, remember, Beard is basically the norm instead of the exception in those fields.

I agree. But those scientists are in really short supply and in really high demand. And generally, even the brilliant ones have a focus that's just too narrow to make it as a popular public intellectual. The very thing that makes them great scientists tends to work against them in that wider sphere.

It would seem that Thunderf00t has trooned out or at least is close to it

That's not trooning out, that's mid life crisis. Disregard the rainbow vomiting, focus on the younger chick, TF's legs (he's been active, I know those calf muscle shape), he lost some weight, barely contains his smirk, wears youthful fashion and keeps his hair long like in highschool.
Which is really doing a number on his looks (for his age).
He needs to go out and catch some sun, and cut that stupid hair.
Verdict - no trooning out dangers whatsoever. Just normal heterosexual 40-50s male behavior, similar to American Beauty or w/e. Hitting the gym is basically necessary at this age, so I hope he continues doing that.
Here's the archive of that in case it goes away:
