In all fairness, I don't really have a political camp, I never grew up in a world of strong political viewpoints and I don't give a shit now. I was pretty left-leaning and politically active in my 20s and I guess I still am in a way, but it's been weird to see my friends go from "government bad, whoever you vote for makes no fucking difference, your politicians are all bought anyway" to "well if we vote for the left party we just spent 10 years complaining about, it'll be totally great" - It's mental. As teenagers and young adults we learned not to trust the press or politicians, and now they trust both implicitly, as long as it's "their team".

I brought this up with them and they just called my cynical and jaded. I mean, they're right in a way but politically I've always been so. The only difference I can see between them and myself is that I'm the only one of us who lives in the countryside. Life leads us in different directions, I guess.

I'm a libertarian and agree with the basic tenets. I like low taxes (a necessary evil to live in a civilized society), minimal federal oversight, cut foreign aid, keep US money in the US, guns, weed, and borties. But it seems like in the last few years, the movement has been co-opted by the lolbertarians. You know the types. Absolutely all taxation is theft, abolish age of consent, recreational nukes, nudists, and generally insane people. Youd be surprised. Honduras had the highest murder rate in the world for the longest time. People would get shot all the time, drugs were traded in broad daylight and the gangs had more power than the police. Then in under two years, the whole countrys crime rate dropped like a stone and at worst it was driven underground as legions of gangsters were stuffed in prisons. You could do the same thing here if the political will existed as the mitigation tools for at least the homeless are known. Theyre just not being used.
