So why not make that the point instead of this over reaching shit?
That was the point. Third party apps used the API for free, reddit didn't get ad revenue from people using those apps so wanted API revenue instead. This all goes back to some investment company dropping reddits valuation a few days ago, the "Chief Revenue Officer"they hired back in January, etc. They've had an IPO in the works for almost 2 years now, they want to show they can pull in revenue, which means.. getting more money.

The reddit jannies on the other hand don't see it that way and expect that reddit is supposed to just exist eternally having VC funding rounds as if investors will never expect a return, so took none of that into consideration. The jannies focus is on internet asspats and throwing a tantrum because they "work for free" when no one ever forced them to do a damned thing.

Nah, they're just relentlessly shitting on the mods and posting nerd emojis in /r/nbacirclejerk.
I honestly see /r/nba getting coup'd sometime next week if they really try to make it indefinite. They were closed for the final game, the draft's coming up, this is the last relevant part of their season before they go into the offseason lull.
It isn't /r/nfl where they went dark at a period where the only "news" is a few contract holdouts during OTAs and all the interesting offseason shit happened months back now.

If they want their gay little protest to work instead of shutting their subs down they should just announce that they'll "try their best" to moderate any unexpected massive floods of racism and gore spam but, y'know, everyone on the mod teams are feeling a little bit discouraged at the moment and might be preoccupied dealing with their mental wellness and janny/life balance.

How the fuck did leftoids get so clueless at how industrial actions work?

Because they've never been in a union, never having had a job of any sort.

Say what you like about the Teamsters, they will fuck your shit up if you piss them off.
Being on Tor isn't any worse on phone than it is on PC.
But you're still on a phone, which makes you a gay phoneposter.

"Blah blah TOS you have to show ads in your app" I meant.
Ah, I see what you mean. No idea, just demanding money is the lazy route I guess? No need to bother with enforcement? It's also entirely likely they had some internal analysts do the math on how much they'd need to charge to make up for the ad revenue and just set it as a "go away" price, hoping everything would just blow over in a week vs continually monitoring third party apps for compliance.

If you go on the main Reddit page and look around you can see messages from subs opening back up and posting about "next steps" including polls. Most of the people replying are saying they failed and a few are openly hostile towards the mods - the funniest one was the "teenagers" sub where a bunch of people with their 13-16 year old ages as flair were telling the mod to shut up.

It seems like it annoyed the users more than raising awareness, not a shock.

The only leftist (not liberals calling themselves leftists) sub I've found is r/stupidpol. There was a post the other day about if they should do a blackout thing and all the comments were just making fun of the OP. They're not taking part, probably partially because it's stupid and partially because they're aware that the admins are looking for an excuse to ban them for not bending the knee to the genderfolk.

As far as Reddit goes, that's an entertaining subreddit. It feels like there's probably some cross over with Kiwis, and it's fun to watch the occasional liberal stumble in and say something stupid and get confused when the sub is openly hostile to liberals.

Having worked closer to management and even the c suite than I'd like for longer than I can fathom withstanding, let me say this: Management is absolutely fucking retarded as a rule and they often don't actually follow or even do analysis at all.

I think the point is indeed to get people on the official reddit app, and they're doing it in a very out of touch "fuck you got mine" kind of way. Probably because money, of course, lol.

There is ONE way it could have worked:

A permanent (none of this 2 days BS) strike of the majority of mods across Reddit. Without the volunteer libtard squad to keep SOME kind of lid on the insanity, Reddit would turn into 4chan in a matter of days, maybe hours, and the shit would actually hit the fan for admin.
Reddit would just put out a site wide call for new admins and gradually replace every single protester in the manner of a week, two weeks tops.

Nobody would cross that picket line…..but we would, and in one fell swoop, every board would be filled with Terry Davis videos screaming “Nigger cattle!” Many an asshole picture would be seen, many a tranny would seethe.

I miss the old 4Chan gay operations, fueled entirely by autism, a healthy need for mischief and moms pizza pockets.

Stupidpol is 70% liberals pretending to be leftists and 30% rightwinger refugees.

The difference is that unlike most liberals they are actually good at pretending to be leftists. I know, this because I've been using stupidpol for about 5 years.

Most of them will convincigly espouse leftist positions but when actually pressed on questions like "Do you you think being a fat gay NEET playing videogames, watching porn and smoking weed all day sustained by the government should be allowed?" they tend to relent and say yes.

Most generous description I'd give them is pre 2010 liberals.
