Its not even that. Bribes work when there isn't a public spotlight on your case. If he was smart and quiet he could have done a lot of shit and could have swept it under the rug. When the public eye is on the case bribes become increasingly expensive to impossible no matter how much money you throw at the problem.

If he gets away it will make everyone involved look either corrupt or complete idiots so egos are also involved. His only real playing card is blackmail, he either has it or he doesn't. Maybe thats what the cops were searching for before they charge him.

I am fairly optimistic that he is going to jail, everyone is going to get a big old promotion, egos will be stroked and then they will continue to take bribes from smarter criminals that don't go online and scream about braking the law while bribing cops.
