I had an appointment at an autism screening location recommended to me by my psychologist a few months ago, but I had to cancel it because I moved down to southern Florida, in the Hollywood area. I am 18. I need a provider who can screen me for Autism. So far, the only places I have been able to find through Google are designated towards children. The only website I have not looked at is AutismSpeaks, but we all know that they do not actually speak, nor care about us, so I am reluctant to use their resources. While I, and my psychologists are fairly confident I have autism, I need a diagnosis to receive government support, which has become even more necessary with my parents having disowned me. I would appreciate if anyone has any advice for me on places where I can be tested for autism.

One year ago, I was stuck living in some shitty small town in rural Florida, where every other house had confederate flags, and I was stuck living with my father, who was literally a member of the Aryan brotherhood. Six months ago, I tried to kill myself because I thought things would never get better. Then I went to rehab, where I was given hope my future, where I began to believe that a good life for me wasn't just a fantasy, that it was actually possible. When I got out of rehab, I went to live in a halfway house in southern florida, where I thought I could get my new start. It turns out, that just wasn't in the cards for me. Covid got worse and worse, and I wasn't able to find a job. Eventually, I couldn't afford to live there anymore. Then, my parents disowned me for being trans. So, I made a choice. I decided to leave everything behind and go somewhere I'd always wanted to live. I drove my car for three days straight, from Florida all the way up to Seattle. Then, with no money left, I slept in a homeless shelter for several weeks. Then, I was accepted into a transitional housing programme for the LGBT+ community. They helped me to get healthcare, to get food stamps, to get everything I needed. And today, after wanting it for more than two years, I've finally started HRT. I never thought I would make it this far. A year ago, I genuinely believed I would die in Florida, never having escaped my family. But here I am, wearing feminine clothes, starting HRT, and finally feeling as though it is safe for me to go places by myself. I may still be poor, I may still be homeless, but I am infinitely happier than I was back in Florida, and coming here was the best decision of my life. I'm glad that I wasn't successful on that day six months ago, because if I had been, I would never have made it this far, and I would have never realized that things can change for the better. So to anyone here who's in a similar situation to me, who thinks that things can't possibly get better, and things will never change, I've been there, and trust me, they can. Good luck to all my trans brothers and sisters out there. My DM's are open if anyone wants to talk. It might take me a while, but I will answer.

"The exception proves the rule" isn't a generally true axiom; it's a saying that applies to specific situations where apparent exceptions actually validate the underlying rule. Like if you thought health problems in some area were being caused by pollution in the local river, and then you found out the one town that doesn't have these health problems gets its water from a different river, that would be a case where the exception proves the rule.

To clarify: in my personal experience and with regard to sexual abuse of teenagers, gay men are like straight men and lesbians are like straight women. The way you come to the conclusion that gays and lesbians are disproportionately represented among abusers is to seriously, substantially underestimate the number of straight abusers — primarily but not exclusively men.

The abuse of prepubescent children is a different thing and the hetero/homo distinction may be meaningless among true pedophiles.
