things you remember from your childhood that zoomers will not get to have

Regular TV where you had to decide between limited options and live with things like commercial breaks.

I've been arguing with a guy about this... this guy is one of those really stubborn and narrow-minded people who only likes what he likes and is very hard to convince to try new things, a kind of mindset I think could only exist in the era of streaming services and on-demand programming.

In my day, such a thing was impossible. You were, at some point, going to have to explore and branch out just because of the limited number of possibilities. If you didn't like anything on TV, you'll look through your tape collection--and you'll get bored of watching the same two episodes of an anime over and over again so you're gonna at some point take a chance and see if this movie you never heard of is actually good, or failing that, maybe actually try reading a book....

But nowadays people are stubborn and shallow because the world allows them to be, and worse these people act like this is A) a good thing and that B) being ignorant and shallow somehow makes them superior to you.

On a related note, I miss how there used to be no real distinction between older media and newer media. When I was a kid and watching the Adam West Batman, I had no concept that it was a show made decades before I was born, or that Chronicles of Narnia was from the 1950s. It was just another show, another book. Cartoons with that UPA art style were just a different kind of cartoon.

This is another way modern people are shallow, nowadays people will actually use a thing's age as an excuse to turn their noses up at it--IE "you want me to watch The Sopranos? Dude, that show is like decades old!" Again, wasn't even a thing in my youth--before the internet I never once heard someone say "I refuse to watch a movie from the 1960s" or "I refuse to read a book from before the 1980s."

........ Bonus: People being forced to get along with those who disagree, and not just dismiss their enemies as Nazis.

Neopets (still goat and i have my old account)

Not trying to start a fight but I kinda miss the era when "goat" was a farm animal and not an acronym that when used sounds like it should be an insult (goats are known to be bullheaded and stubborn) but its actually a compliment.

EDIT: On a similar note, I miss when you could have a normal fucking conversation without having to stop every five minutes to ask the meaning of some Japanese loan word or some internet term that is inexplicably being used in meatspace, and when most people preferred to use understood terms rather than some slang made up by youtubers that managed to get popular.

If you wanted to phone one of your friends then you had to phone their house and 99% of the time you'd get one of their parents and have to ask them if Billy could come to the phone. 100% worse if it was a person of the opposite sex and you fancied them.

Playing 20-a-side football (soccer) with jumpers for goalposts.

Going to the record store to get a new tape/CD and listening to it almost constantly.

Tape recording songs from the radio.

The cops not being complete scum. They would look out for kids and unless they you were doing something completely retarded and illegal the worst you'd get would be a massive bollocking from the policeman and then an even bigger bollocking after told your dad.

Getting excited reading about new games in magazines.

6 million choices of drinks at the gas station. I still miss sobe.

Getting yelled at by the neighbors when the ball went over their fence but also the thrill of climbing the fence and attempting to get the ball before you got caught.

Car CD changers located under the seat. Those were gay. Good riddance.

Mom finding your porn under the bed.

Having a console but having to go to blockbuster to rent games, so you had a mad rush to finish it before it was time to return the game. Sometimes you got lucky and there was an existing save that unlocked the good stuff.
Public libraries rent games (for free)

But being forced to speak english is a big disadvantage.

Pretty much everyone in my generation speaks english. Zoomers? Not so much.

The ability to avoid getting their minds warped by weirdo culture warriors trying to convince them that their normal teenage feelings are part of some greater class/race struggle they must be a part of.
God this thread is hard to read, a good 95% of the points raised here are things most zoomers DEFINITELY experienced.
I think when people are thinking of "Zoomers", they're thinking of people who are currently in their mid-teens at the oldest. Plenty of people in their early 20's experienced some of the things listed here.
