It was pretty funny seeing that come out after their previous round of woke posturing and then immediately fall on it's face.

Ps. What didn't you like about Skullgirls's art style?
I thought that some of the faces were a bit weird but otherwise I thought that it was nicely constructed and shaded.
I'm not bothered or anything and "I just don't like it" is a fine answer. I'm just interested.
I played Indivisible.
After about an hour I put it back in the case and have never touched it again.
Not a good game.

I meant post Mike Z meltdown. The studio dissolved, reassembled, got the rights to Skullgirls (aka 2nd Encore) and then this is all they have to show for it.

Mike Z probably would have made something new at this point if his studio didn't literally mutiny on him.
I recall them setting up the story for a sequel. Then did nothing but sit on the IP for a decade. The story might have been interesting if they'd continued on what was already established with the worldbuilding, but 2nd encore is misleading. Its just a rebranding of the first game with nothing new added. The game really hasnt aged well and lost its mid 20th century cartoon vibes and turned into more calarts garbage.

Didn't they have beta testing for a mobile port of the game some years before COVID? What happened to that? Had no idea that a mutiny happened where the series creator was ousted. But given the crowd he surrounded himself with, the nigger had it coming.

That said - it's a dead IP now. It's a dead game and the studio clearly does not have the capacity, drive, or imagination to make anything with it. Not even a new character after ~4 years.

The lolsuit between with MikeZ/LabZero and the founders of the new company revealed that Lab Zero was literally waiting on funds from a publisher to work on Skullgirls 2 and another unannounced FG. Skullgirls getting DLC instead of a new game is obviously kind of a cope. I think MikeZ fully owns the engine used to make Skullgirls so they literally can't make a new game with it without getting his permission or recreating everything in another engine.

MikeZ doesn't really deserve this. Him and Alex Ahad had a dream to make a fighting game by any means and they succeeded, whether you dislike the artstyle or not it's animated extremely well and it has a lot of things that many FGs did not have at the time and would take years to catch on (rollback netcode, extensive netcode, lobbies that actually let more than 2 people play at a time). MikeZ himself left a pretty wealthy programming job to make pennies working on his fighting game. Even after the game was released and had successful kickstarters and finished DLC, MikeZ would STILL be working on fixing bugs probably no one else had found and patching it. He would compete in tournaments, he would do commentary for events. He made the engine for the game, he was the lead programmer and designer. This man had very strong passion for this game and because of some dumb bitch on twitter and conniving snakes in his company he has lost literally all of it. It's a very sad story imo and I know MikeZ can be a bit of SJW cuck but he has passion for fighting games and creating video games in general and he's pretty good at it so all I can hope is that he wins his court case and can make enough money to make a new FG like he was GOING to do until he got cucked out of his company.

Also, just to be clear the new company founded by ex-lab0 employees have been working on DLC for Skullgirls, they've released 3 or 4 characters so far.

Honestly, all that's really left to really do is 1. Make Marie playable and 2. Finish the webcomic.

Again, I think a good reason it's gotten as far as it did is because it managed to fill the Marvel vs Capcom void left after Infinite tanked before Dragon Ball Fighterz came along. And as I said before, only Peacock has ever managed to be a character worth a damn IMO.

Yes. It's very funny because the snakes used this as a jumping point to try and call out Mike for being a sexual harasser. In the court documents, Mike has full on evidence of them admitting that when this news broke that they felt bad for Mike and don't think he was in the wrong...just to go out and make allegations that he sexual harassers people at work. I don't think anybody has actually ever brought up ANY proof that Mike has actually done any real sexual harassments but even if he did say something inappropriate, you have the people that are directly tried to fuck him over, to blame for why he thinks it's okay. It's literal court evidence now where Mike has shown extensive DMs of the main two female coworkers who were at the head of the company after Mike DMing him unprompted conversations about sexual stuff. If you were an autistic man in his position who has been having those kind of conversations for years, you'd think it's normal behavior between two people. I'll post some examples of evidence from Mike about how the type of shit the people who are currently censoring Skullgirls behavior privately and even at work

To be clear - he deserved it because of who he surrounded himself with (a company full of people who were willing to sabotage him for twitter clout or even possibly collaborate in a scheme to oust him).

Even if he wins his court case - he's already kind of dead in the water (as is Skullgirls, which is now a legal nightmare). Even for people who have gone through this before and won (Chris Avelonne comes to mind) - it's not like you get everything back; the people, products, and companies that distanced themselves from you aren't going to come running back. The time is also gone - which is massive. Several years of no real forward progress with Skullgirls (or SG2) puts it even further behind in the FGC - which has SF6's launch, Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 coming soon.

His inability to staff his company with people that bought into him or his vision and root out literal snakes is what got him here, passionate developer or not.

Marvel 3 and Ultimate Marvel 3 came out in 2011 and had a more than robust tourney scene for many years and still has a niche tourney market to this day. Skullgirls never once filled the void. If people wanted Mahvel Baby they could fucking play it. Skullgirls has always been that "weird anime fighter" that only faggots/weaboos/degenerates play like Melty Blood and Under Night in Birth. DBZ Fighterz came out 4 months after Infinite. Are you seriously suggesting it occupied a 4 month void? You're a god damn retard. Stop posting.

The problems with Skullgirls was that it wasn't Marvel. You could make a "spiritual successor" to something but it has to stand on it's own as it's own unique thing. Remember the "spiritual successor" to Windjammers? No? Exactly!

2nd problem was that it was autistically designed around resets. It was a very, very reset heavy game which goes back to former programmer/head autist Mike Z being an Iron Man/Tronne/Juggernaut player for Marvel 2 although I'm only finding match videos of him using Doom/Tronne/Juggernaut but I swear he used Ironman. His team was all about resets and get the one hit, super, DHC into Juggs and boom just kill a guy. Dudes didn't really like that kind of gameplay and they preferred variety in the gameplay which MVC 2 and 3 did pretty well with a variety of top tier zoners/rushdown/weird teams (I.E. that one guy who got to Evo with Spider-Man/Doom/someone else).

Lastly, it was a different audience. They knew they catered HARD to weeaboos and coomers and more normie people are going to look at the fans of Skullgirls and rightfully turn their noses up.
 
Jap fighter character designs are stolen from manga and the western ones are stolen from 80s movies and comic books. Not that stealing is bad or anything.
I mean, I'm pretty sure stealing can be overlooked in this context if we're talking about something that's good that came from a result of stealing. Except Skullgirls probably hasn't reached that tier.
