"Used early on" means that someone higher up the totem pole found out that they were playing mind games with applicants, probably because no one was making it to the hiring stage except for talentless losers who were desperate for any kind of work, and forced the team to stop. That also reads like it was written by a Pajeet, a race which is infamous for its presenteeism and quiet quitter-like behavior in the workplace. It makes sense they they would only screen for someone who's willing to show up anywhere, anytime, since that is the highest virtue to them.

Yeah it's a case of context. Normally 8am would be the start time of being acceptable to call someone or someplace if they are working or a company/store/office but in the case of someone who us unemployed it really doesn't work as well and comes off as tryhard.
