You know, back when I was a teen in the 2010s, I wasn't much into anime, until the day I saw Akira on home video and it became one of my favourite movies. So after that, there was a bit of an urge in me to watch more anime, but I didn't do that much. Thankfully, the urge turned into a drive when I saw Rerez's HILARIOUS review of the dreadful Gundam 0079 War for Earth game in 2021, which got me to buy an Entry Grade on Amazon. I looked up the Gundaminfo YouTube channel (they host subtitled versions of the shows), but they didn't have stuff I was interested in... Until they began running New Mobile Report Gundam Wing. After that, I was hooked, and once I turned over to unofficial services, I was further hooked when I finally saw the excellent, near-timeless Original Series.
I saw Thunderbolt S1/December Sky, 0080, Char's Counterattack, Unicorn, SEED, 0083, Zeta and even a little bit of Mobile Fighter G Gundam. I was building High Grade Gundam models, before changing to Real Grade, and then to Master Grade before deciding to keep it varied to keep my budget safe. I even interacted with fans on Reddit and Gundamforums. I even got interested in other serialised anime both TV and OVA through Gundam, stuff like Martian Successor Nadesico, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure The Animation (aka. season 1) and one I'm currently going through, Super Dimension Fortress Macross. I gained a fondness for Japanese animation through Gundam... But it was 2022. And you all know where this is going...

I mean it when I say The Witch from Mercury ruined EVERYTHING in the west. Between the bait-and-switch initial showing, the trite characters, the sacrifice of everything Gundam to chase trends in a misguided attempt to appeal to teenage viewers, and the fact it was an INO High School Lesbian Romance Drama which is only called Gundam because it has Mobile Suits and dark moments in it, I KNEW what was gonna happen. And it did. Thanks to Witch from Mercury, the fanbase has been overrun by troons, Utena cucks and Earthnoids who will gaslight, insult and belittle you for calling how it is, even making entire videos painting Witch haters as right-wing trolls. I still love this franchise, but fuck you Okouchi for ruining Gundam in the west.

Although troons haven't ruined my hobbies, politics and Social Justice have certainly made it harder to enjoy them.

I use to play in a recreational sports league and the team's last captain ghosted me off the roster during a time when I refused to sign petitions for ballot initiatives that year or signal boost the captain's posts abut the relatively new at the time BLM movement. It worked out, because I've since moved o to something else that was far more worthwhile.

In a newer hobby I've been part of for the past few years, someone was interviewed for a podcast and immediately sperged about driving while black during his interview that aired shortly after George Floyd passed away. Fast forward two years, and a conference for the hobby featured a speaker whose presentation boiled down to, "Are you bringing white privilege to the hobby? (probably yes)".

I read and engage in media to escape from reality. I don't wanna be fucking reminded of every social injustice while I'm trying to relax.

This is how I feel about the aforementioned hobby. When I attend an afternoon or daylong event involving it, I do so to put daily drama aside and not to be reminded of it. For me, entertainment is intended to be an escape from everyday crap. When people insist in making social and political junk part of any form of entertainment, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

They have a problem where only 4-5 teams are reliably competitive in large part because of their shitty salary cap system, and they decide that what the game really needs to save it from irrelevance is a pitch clock. The fuck out of here. I can't say it's ruined, though, because watching a live game is still a fun experience.

Pro sports are more about fan entertainment than athletic competition, so decisions are made with entertainment as the first thought and less about what's good for the game itself. Such fuckery even happens in rec sports, too. The rec league I mentioned above had all sorts of pointless rule changes that penalized smart defense. The simpler solution would have been to add a division for teams that wanted to be super competitive and let the teams playing for fun continue to do so in their own division.

I've gained a sudden interest in Minor League and independent baseball. Smaller, more intimate stadiums and localized teams with clever names seem to give it more soul.

My part of Kiwi Land has a stadium where a small number of independent teams play during the summer weekends with an emphasis on cheap prices, clever team mascot names, and family-friendly fun. As a result, the league has been extremely popular with the community.

Not one thank you but oh boy did I hear about my wrong boots.

The hobby I'm in stresses period-accuracy as much as possible. However, the discussion of such sometimes devolves into micromanagement and spergery which can be frustrating because a full period-authentic uniform for both participants and spectators can cost around $300 - an amount that a number of individuals have admitted they can't afford given the current economy. Instead, many people upgrade one piece of clothing/equipment at a time as they can afford it until they're fully period-appropriate.

That said, I'm not surprised about the comments about your boots, @Bassomatic - People in my hobby have been taken to task if they wear black shoes without blacking out brand names and logos.

If I were you, I'd look at some IRL art clubs and art classes.

What works best is IRL art clubs ran by someone who cares most about drawing/art and self-improvement without injecting politics and social justice into it. Those might be hard to find, but it's worth it if and when you do.

I miss the FGC from 2010. I dip back in and out of the community, but every year I feel like it gets a little worse, with the exception of 2021 where everybody wanted to talk about how much they wanted the unvaxxed to be locked in their houses for eternity or worse. Current issue is every time I look at it there's a higher percentage of my local communities that has trooned out, I guess it makes sense when people like me start participating less and less.

People that have no appreciation for the nature or great projects built into them. I recently did trip of Southern Utah and only visited the back roads around the National parks, more interesting scenery with less people and the people you see are the ones that are respectful and appreciate the area. Also free dispersed camping that not overran with generators like national park or forest campground.

I did agianst my better judgement visited Zion National Park, a place I dreamed of visiting when since I was a young child looking at old geography books. It was overran with RV and tiktokers. People blocking all the roads and paths to do dance video. Waiting in hour lines to go via the tunnel road because of RV that can only go one at a time. Although it was pretty funny to see some bikini girls fall on there ass on the highway trying to do a jump move or another standing out of a sun roof doing a rap video hit with ice by a biker. Horrible experience that felt like Disney World.

It barely exists anymore because you can't have a real skeptic community if you aren't allowed to ask questions. Video Gaming Blogs - Kotaku wasn't a bastion of great journalism and even before being plagued it sucked and was a better place to get info on Brian Ashcraft's stupid fucking child than it was to get video game news, but it was still an improvement over what it's become. And unfortunately every other outlet followed suit. At least they're getting replaced by AI soon, per their parent company.

Video Games - Most AAA games will have some gay/black/trans criticism-blocker in their game so if you don't like it they can say "Ah, must be because youre a ____-phobe. Disgusting. Thankfully, good people love this game, am I right good people?" then a bunch of retard harp seals clap for them and they move on.

Tabletop gaming - They come for everything socially retarded autists love because they are all socially retarded autists, so it was only a matter of time before they came for this, but Wil Wheaton didn't help by being a lightning rod for them. So now you have beloved board games getting sequels and having the writing handed over to people like Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn and you've got people at D&D apologizing and promising to make changes because they made orcs big, colored, dumb, violent, stupid, and smelly - just like black people.

Comics - I don't care about comics but I worked with them and once it got overtaken by the people that don't realize there's a difference between Xmen telling an allegorical tale about civil rights and putting out a comic where a morbidly obese female superhero goes on adventures with Hillary Clinton and basically shouts "VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO" to the reader

Cybersecurity - when learning this it's a real pain when something you once knew as a "man-in-the-middle" attack gets changed because "man" bad.

Museums - I just went to the Smithsonian museums and constantly saw references to lgbtq, "colonizers", and the first exhibit I saw at the american history museum was about cubans and mexicans.

Comedy - If you're a stand up comedian and you're cheering on the woke plague spreading through comedy you are a willing Sonderkommando and you deserve abject failure in every aspect of your life.

The Internet - I don't think I need to tell anybody here how woke shit has ruined and continues to ruin the internet.

Yard Sales & Flea Markets - this one is a bit different. This one was killed by reality TV. 20 years ago I could go to a yard sale and if someone was selling some cool old trinket or an old nintendo game or something they'd just want it gone and sell it for a few bucks. Now they saw something like it on some reality show and they think they're sitting on treasure so they're trying to sell Madden NFL '94 on SNES for $200.

I'm still shook from my family's foray into Yosemite to see the runoff from the record snowpack. Christ, Disneyland indeed. I mean, Yosemite Valley has been stupid with tourists for decades now, but this year their no reservation system meant people were parked all the way to the entrance.

So we did some actual backpacking and after coming out of the woods I went into a campground bathroom where some chick was taking up the only sink to put her full face makeup on while everyone else in there was taking their smelly morning dump. Fucking leaves in my hair I just reached in front of her to wash my hands and face.

Anyway, we regret fucking around in the park for a bit before going on our next hike because it added an hour+ and extra miles just to get around because the shuttles were over crowded. The huge number of Indian tourists probably had no problems with it. Eventually we head back up, and here comes makeup bitch (she had a unique and stupid outfit, it must have been her), coming down out of the Mist Trail, totally soaked and makeup ruined. She looked miserable. I wonder what her selfie was like?
My husband and I look like dirtbags when we go backpacking so I hope we ruined lots of selfies that day by lingering in frame. The bogarting of prime views to get a photo of a banally attractive young woman in leggings was infuriating. I'm pretty sure AI can generate these images by now, why bother?
