things you remember from your childhood that zoomers will not get to have

I sometimes miss the sheer wild side of the older internet. I remember being at sleepovers with friends, and we would all gather around an old ass PC screen/laptop and go on Chatroulette/Omeagle/similar and have funny conversations with absolute strangers.
Being able to do stupid shit with friends and NOT have it be on the internet forever.
Downloading music/shows/movies and hoping you didn't give your family PC some form of horrific virus, as places like Limewire and such were far more common/didn't require things like VPN's to access.
Not having internet sites and advertisements knowing everything about you based on your browsing history and sometimes, your actual thoughts (please, stop sending me adverts/emails about things I only thought about briefly while looking on Amazon).

With how things are going, the internet.

Believe it or not, KF is one of the last bastions of the 'old' internet where people can speak their mind under complete anonymity.

Zoomers will never experience making a prank on the internet/saying a bad word/speaking an unpopular opinion without the whole world going against you.

Or outright sharing a meme without it being some snapshot/reference to a movie/product ad.

Seeing video game graphics going from 8-bit to full-on photorealism.

On a similar note, seeing the sheer leaps, and bounds AI has made. I still remember being in utter awe when I saw just how responsive, and intelligence the villagers in the GameCube version of Animal Crossing were. If I was told of what was coming in just the following years, I don't know if I would've believed it, and kids these days are just born with it being the norm.

I think you need to move.
Nah, I love my isolated rural community.

Althought, there appears to be fewer trick or treaters here than in the past.
All I ever hear about these days is how parents are afraid to let their kids trick or treat or play outside. Unless I'm mistaken and that's just hysteria. If that's the case, then I really do feel bad that kids today don't get to enjoy trick or treating and just going outside to play whether it's games, sports, make-believe, exploring, or even walking around their neighborhoods. With all the pity and privileges that creeps and predators get nowadays though, I can see why parents don't their kids to get hurt.

Trick or treating, playing outside, no social media, entertainment not being completely ruined by heavy-handed liberal agendas, LGBT being a fringe group, no inflation, life before 9/11.

It was far from perfect, and I don't miss my childhood, but all the same I don't envy zoomers.
no inflation?!?!? that would be nice

What age bracket are you guys saying won't be able to experience these things? I was born after 9/11 and was able to experience nearly everything that was described here, some as late as 2020. The median zoomer age is 21.

and that's why you don't get trick-or-treaters. Suburbs are the real trick-or-treating hubs because they combine the best elements of both the city and the country; lots of houses in close proximity, and people friendly enough to participate.

I will agree though people are fucking pansies nowadays about kids' safety during trick-or-treating. I understand some precautions, like making sure kids are visible while crossing the street, but people get absolutely paranoid. They think that just because the sun goes down the neighborhood takes a +5 in danger. If the kid is safe enough walking to school by themselves, they're safe on Halloween night. If you're worried, WALK WITH YOUR KID YOURSELF. I don't know why parents keep outsourcing the safety of their kids by ruining fun things for everyone (like the Internet, speaking of...) but it's really starting to get on my nerves.

Counterpoint: rural trick-or-treating give you a higher chance of getting full sized candy bars and even more treats, as the low volume of visitors makes the houses splurge on the good stuff.

I never got those. Grew up in a pretty rural area. Did get full sized toothpaste once.

Using my imagination to entertain myself. Reading a book. Not being coombrained.

Seeing your favorite 8bit character transition into 3D is interesting...

Being able to say something offensive or cringe and not having it follow you around for 10 years. I said shitloads of dumb stuff when I was 15, but I got to grow up in an environment where a few people yell at me and it's forgotten in 2 days. Nowadays you have to constantly look over your shoulder for your smartphone-addicted compatriots trying to dox and cancel you for the slightest faux pas. All made worse by the fact that these kids are at the age where we expect them to be testing boundaries. For as cringe as kids are now I can hardly even blame them, if I was under a microscope every time I stepped outside I'd act a little funky too.

They’ll never know the joys of conducting entire online raids on social media platforms to the levels seen back in the old days.

They were fun.

I guess you can throw in genuine online friendships. Nowadays, you have to record every single conversation with people you DM with just so you don’t get falsely accused of saying shit you didn’t/having stuff be presented out of context to get you unperson’d.

With all the flaws of the old internet, people were way less at each other’s throats back then
