Ash doesn't understand they're not jailing big ladies for being sad. Most of these helplines have criteria if the person meets for SI/HI, to have the police follow up for safety. The police then make a decision to take the person to the hospital. A medical team will make a decision at the ER whether the person is triaged as medical or psych, or if they even just need a glance over from psych if they're medical. Then psych has to be the one to say they need to stay for a longer eval. There are probably steps beyond that for psych, but I am not sure. My point is, involuntary hospital psych assessments and treatment aren't a light decision. I think, as a society, we are doing a good job at helping people. We can always strive to do better, but Ash really has no clue.

You can do whatever you want, but there are consequences for your actions.
