It wasn’t total carnivore for most populations. Some exceptions like arctic, and Masai and some who had very high animal product diets like steppe herders. Most hunter gatherers hunted and gathered. In Britain for example things like wild hazelnuts, berries, tubers, etc. many wild plays were eaten - you can see the shells in the middens, along with shellfish, venison, they e even pulled some aurochs thigh out of some of the pits near Stonehenge. Bet that was a treat.Carnivore was essentially the diet all humans were on before they discovered agriculture.
But what was absent for most was processed carbs in any quantity. It was meat and fish and veg. Which is really good for you .
I grew up on such a diet. Parents still eat that way and I try to. Meat/fish and veg. Margarine is far worse for you than butter. Good red meat, meat, fish, eggs, dairy, home grown veg and keep the packaged stuff to a minimum. Nothing wrong with a bit of sugar now and then (I make jam from the summer fruit excess) and I eat honey daily but the constant emulsifiers and seed oils and processed shit kills you. It definitely makes you depressed tooFifty years ago people ate red meat, butter, other whole foods, and didn’t have the issues everyone has
