That Metal Thread

Just wanted to share that I went to the last date for the Klash of the Titans tour in Times Square last night and it was fucking awesome. The first band was called Spiritworld and they were dressed as cowboys and they played songs off of their recent album called Deathwestern. The second band was Death Angel. For the age of the members they played perfectly, the standing area was a madhouse by the time they started playing Thrown to the Wolves. Kreator was next, Mille was a little off with the vocals but overall it was a good set. Sepultura closed and by the middle of their set my chest was beat through the 6+ hours of bass vibrating my body. It was a hell of a night.

Just discovered this album in my CD collection and was like "When did I buy this? What is this even?".

Solid Black/Thrash from Hungary. Nothing you have never heard before though.

EARTH PLAGUE "Cult of Damnation"

I have a channel recommendation HeavyMetalManiacs
Pretty much all 80s metal
Been listening to their full album uploads for years, but they recently started uploading again.
Type of stuff you could just pick a sick album cover and let it rip.

I'm familiar with them. They have a lot of great obscure albums. It's good to see them uploading again.

Pyramaze's first album is so good, shame that everything that came afterwards is generic modern metal. Upset that I didn't know about Iced Earth until Jon Schaeffer's shenanigans at the Capitol got him arrested, would've loved to see them live. Forever depressed that Lost Horizon will never come back together. And for my final, spiciest, unironic opinion: St. Anger is the best Metallica album.

Legend of the Bone Carver had a few bangers but yeah they fell off hard. Lance King really made the band and his I don't think his solo stuff is too shabby.

Tax: this came up on my subscriptions and it was good enough to prompt me to go check their other shit.

Do you like Moëvöt or any of the other LLN projects?

I have never been a huge black metal fan but I have been listening to a lot of dark ambient projects lately. A lot of them are really fuckin good

I still think my favorite thing about Black Metal is Audrey Sylvain, though:

Ive never heard them I will take a look. Any connection to Diamatregon? They are one of the only French BM bands I really know of.

I don't think so, Les Légions Noires was a group of a bunch of underground french Black Metal guys who released several projects like Moëvöt which sort of became their own entities. It's kinda complicated but here is the wikipedia that explains each project and who was involved with what. I'm not huge into that scene or anything but always loved Moëvöt for his extremely dark and creepy ambient and gregorian chant/necroglossal themed material. The guy also has a super cool corpsepaint portrait:

This is another possible Moëvöt track (though the authenticity is disputed - recordings of his work is somewhat hard to come by):

I was always a really big fan of that aspect of Black Metal, the dark and spooky woods and could really do without all the aspects there simply for the sake of shock value, like the overt forced satanist stuff to anger and provoke christians, the church burnings (why? this always pissed me off...old churches are beautiful and spooky and still cool looking even if you don't believe in god), the arbitrary elitism of Euronymous and Varg (though the latter is one of my favorite lolcows), the over the top violent themes and long spikes/weapons and other silly stuff.

Give me a somber and disturbing atmosphere and let my imagination do the rest, yknow? Keep the theatric stuff to a minimum. That's the type of Black Metal I like, personally.

First 3 Mutiilation albums were the peak of Black Metal imho

They are one of the only French BM bands I really know of.

France has one of the strongest BM scences, starting with the whole LLN circle (Vlad Tepes, Belketre, Torgeist, Mütiilation, etc) who plays most of the time very raw and unpolished Black Metal.

If you like this stuff check out Zèpülkr, it's in the LLN tradition but a bit more polished.

Then there is Antaeus who play a very brutal form of BM. A newer band is Sordide, raw in style but brutal in sound. Or is Diapsiquir who are just pure chaos and one of the most unique BM bands ever.

Krüel Kommando, Mortifera, Sale Freux, Christicide, Sühnopfer, Arkhon Infaustus, Hell Militia, Glorior Belli who have transcended into Pantera-esque/Stoner Rock Black Metal or Nuit Noire (only songs about fairies) are all worth checking out and all play a different style of BM.

And of course there is Deathspell Omega. They started with more traditional Black Metal but have to became to blow up all boundaries and genre limitations. "Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice" is basically a must-listen for BM fans. And their split with Satanic Warmaster is one of the best splits ever (got a repress a few years ago so it's available again).

For NSBM fans or fans of "controversial" BM you have Kristallnacht, Autarcie, Necropole/Caverne, Elitism, Order of the Death's Head, Malsaint, Gestapo 666, Chemin de Haine and Osculum Infame.

Last but not least Peste Noire. Defenitely check out Peste Noire. Start with their first album and listen to all albums in the order they were released. It's one wild ride.

Gotta be real here I've been suggested LPN before and have been beyond unimpressed. I compared them to KanonenFieber in that as raw as they could ever get there is too much of a Artfag sheen to these bands to capture the essence of what I personally love about black metal.
