I still think that if a guy want to have the whole Christian Headship experience, he should realize that part of that means it's his job to protect his family. That includes protecting his vulnerable wife and infant from his overbearing mother-in-law.

That was my family's experience as well. When my cousin was born, only his mother and father were allowed to touch him, and only after he could breathe unassisted; the rest of us had to scrub and gown before we could even go in the room, and we couldn't put our hands through the holes in the incubator. I'm surprised Kaylee is allowed to handle her boy skin-to-skin already, let alone Jilldo and co putting their grimy sausage fingers all over the poor thing.

These types don't check for fetal abnormalities. A relative who has spent a career in the NICU says that usually if there's a healthy mom giving birth prematurely, it's because something isn't really right with the baby. Lots of babies need some level of support but they've done a transfer to a higher level of care, for a nearly 5 pound baby? There are near-full term infants of small women, especially first-time moms, that come out that weight. Otherwise-healthy 32 week preemies, especially ones that are big for gestational age and have gotten steroids before the mother delivers, aren't usually going to need that kind of transfer.

It'd be very rough for her to have such a high learning curve experience as her welcome to motherhood, especially since she's always lived in the shadow of her "perfect" older sister. I hope for everyone's sake that it's just "one of those things" where sometimes a baby surprises you, and the baby is otherwise fine.

I want to say Jilldo having Kaylee babysit her ailing grandmother, babysit her younger siblings while Jilldo and Shrek were on their many "vacations", helping remodel Timmy's new place, and God knows what else Jill had her doing might have had something to do with Gideons' premature arrival.
Not saying pregnant women have to be total couch potatoes, but Kaylee wasn't in perfect health when she conceived, IMHO,
and had hyperemesis gravidarium (sp?) That will wear you out.

I feel awful for Kaylee. Seems like the baby's oxygen supply had been reduced or inconsistent to some extent in the womb. Explains the breathing difficulties. I really hope that it didn't cause any issues in the brain, because I'm not sure how they would be able to cope with that. Kaylee's fake smile seems to be waning—she looks like she's had enough. Surprised Jill hasn't subjected her to "grooming" in the hospital like she did to her mother & forced her to fix the chipped nail polish.
