I really don't know what Russia is hoping to accomplish at this point.

Basically to hold as much of their 2022 sucker-punch as possible, and hope NATO gets bored, eventually.
The longer Russia sits on Ukrainian soil the more time it gives them to russify it, and (in theory) they can bleed Ukraine out while doing so, until eventually "the west" (+ increasingly more Asian & Middle Eastern states) get bored and stop sending Ukraine more and more weaponry.

Russians and foreign vatnik copelords abroad will pretty much lap-up any narrative RT puts out, so if the war ended today the claim will be "[MAP AS OF NOW] was always the plan!"

British is a name for the inhabitants of the British Isles, so that would include the Welsh by default. You mean the Welsh and the English - who aren't the same at all, incidentally. There are distinct genetic and cultural differences and they speak different languages.

I seem to recall genetic studies showing the English and the Welsh are basically the same, the English have a very slight admixture of Gallic and Roman and Germanic that the Welsh do not and that's about it. The genetic makeup of white Br*t*sh is like 99.9% pre-Roman "Briton" whether they're English or Welsh

Do you think? I honestly think it's the exact opposite. They lifestyle, the language, it's all the same. I think the Anglecisiation of Wales happened generations ago, same with the scotts. I remember hearing a central european describe a family of Scots living in England as "immigrants" and I just laughed. You're in Cardiff, you could be anywhere in the Uk bar London which has it's own vibe.

There's enough difference to distinguish them. Anglos have up to 30% saxon or northern european DNA, with a pretty distinct boundary that forms a line between newcastle and cheltenham. Everything east of it is heavily saxon, while everything west and north is nearly pure pre-saxon britons. Welsh culture is also very different to English. As different as belfast is from cork.

So there was a minor bit of drama at the NATO summit today as both the US National Security Advisor, and the UK Defence Secretary took a little dig at Ukraine, saying they should show more gratitude for the aid they've been given, and that the West isn't an Amazon where you can just wishlist shit you want.
It's kinda weird the Ben Wallace of all people would come out and say this shit publicly, given he's been championing the UK's response, and I've seen some people suggest, given the language similarity, that it was a coordinated thing with the yanks. However the PM then basically immediately dismissed the entire thing by stating that Zelensky has always been grateful both in public, and in private, so who knows what the fuck is actually going on.

But you can't Russify what has already been Russified. Look at countries like Latvia, Latvia has way less in common with Russia than the Ukraine and the Russification is deep in there.

I agree the two peoples are rather similar and it's tragic they fight.

It's definitely related to Zelensky acting like a petulant child complaining about NATO not letting Ukraine join despite the fact that it's in the goddamned book that NATO cannot admit a country that is at war or has disputed territory. All the asspats must have gone to his head and he thinks that he commands the West. He doesn't get that he is a figurehead and the decisions on what we give him Ukraine have nothing to do with what comes out of his mouth. He speaks, things are shipped over to Ukraine, and he thinks there is a causal link between these two things.
