Fucking FINALLY! An honest to god historical biopic about a Great Man of History in the CURRENT YEAR OF OUR WOKE OVERLORDS, and one that is looking to be completely and unapologetically based. Killing off the Monarchs of France was "Le Bad?" check. Far Left French Revolutionaries were weak and ineffectual morons? Check. "SHALL WE HOLD A VOTE!" Check! Check! Check! What is this absolute gem I am seeing? Am I actually excited for a Movie Film for the first time in years?!

ive been waiting for this for YEARS
i dont mean this exact movie, i mean a movie about Napoleon done by a director with history in similar productions
i always thought that they would make it into a TV show like Rome considering how long the story could be stretched out
i didnt like Beau is Afraid because i get it, mental illness this is his life or whatever, but im a huge fan of Joaquin Phoenix, "You Were Never Really Here" caught me off guard when it came out
although the subject matter is a little dark it was just a fantastic movie

I heard Stan "The Man" Kubrick was also working on a Napoleon epic movie, but, well... we know how that ended.

I've been looking forward to this, but the trailer looks as bombastic as I feared. I hope I'm wrong though.

Side note: The pond scene from the trailer (I suppose that's from the Austerlitz battle) is a myth spread by Napoleon himself. It didn't happen this way, wasn't an intentional trap and the confirmed casualties were very few to none.

im surprised his not black.
There was some black people in one of the party shots but it's actually historical.

There were a couple black aristocrats or educated men in France. Not many mind you, but enough for background shots. I remember hearing there was one particular man who kept getting ambushed or robbed for his race and he was such a good fencer he killed them all every time.

The fencer was the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, who commanded a French legion of free coloreds. He trained Thomas Alexandre Dumas, the father of Alexandre Dumas who wrote The Three Musketeers. Thomas Dumas was the son of a slave and a nobleman who became a famous general during the French Revolution. He served under Napoleon during several campaigns. He was with Napoleon during the Egypt campaign where the locals thought he was in charge due to his imposing figure and that he was the one doing all the negotiating with them. During the campaign Dumas argued with Napoleon over the terrible conditions for the soldiers and he was forced to leave back to France. His ship ran aground and he was captured and imprisoned in Naples for 2 years. Napoleon kept his grudge against Dumas and denied him the pay he was due during his imprisonment and later kept his widow from receiving his pension.

I'm sure Joaquin Phoenix will deliver nothing less than a stellar performance but Ridley Scott is very hit and miss these days (mostly miss tbh), just took a look at his recent filmography and I had to go all the way back to fucking 2007 to find one I actually liked (American Gangster).

I thought Ari Aster would be directing this film, didn't know Ridley Scott had any connection to this one.
