Holy shit im glad someone finally sees it. Larians a bunch of insensitive right wing nazi chuds. The bear fucking video was just to distract from the fact that the dev team was slam dunking mixed race children into a woodchipper during the whole presentation.

Is anyone playing a Paladin? I killed a goblin in a fight and got a message that I'd broken my Oath, it's ridiculous.

I'm not worried about the lvl cap. BGI capped off at 10, and BGII at 17

They were still long and rich games.

the mechanics of both Original Sins are just so much better than even strict 5e would be

DOS:II has dumb mechanics. The basic turn-based combat engine is all right, but it's an RPG by people who don't seem to really understand RPGs.
  • They fundamentally don't understand what leveling is. If your game has level 20 beggars with 2000+ hit points that could single-handedly kill the entire military garrison in the opening act's fortress, because all those combat veterans are mysteriously only level 4, you're doing something very, very wrong.
  • Using level as a gating mechanic in an "open world" to force quests to be done in a certain order is bullshit. No, you can't attack those, um, deer. Why? They're level 11, and you're only level 9. They'll kick your ass. Go kill that level 9 interdimensional horror-beast instead.
  • The combat mostly revolves around managing persistent damage zones, which is frequently annoying.
  • Gear leveling makes no sense. The legendary armor of Braccus Rex, the God-King, hidden away behind ancient puzzles in legendary tombs, is weaker than any random set of pajamas you manage to steal in Arx.
Strict 5e at least understands that a Pit Fiend is always something that will tear apart your average person in milliseconds, that Fireball is not something every random retard knows how to cast, and that a legendary sword is never going to be outclassed by some hobo's worn-out walking stick. There's no such thing as a common shopkeeper who could murder an experienced party of murderhobos.

I ran a 2-year campaign that ended a level 8. It's about the adventure, not getting more widgets on your character sheet every 2 weeks.

"And yeah, Larian apparently thinks "fantasy" means heteronormative white men and hyper-sexualized fantasy women."
He knows he's talking about DnD, right? Obviously WotC is trying to change it now but DnD has always been the nerdiest, whitest thing out there. And straight white nerds like sexy women and self insert as white men. So yes that's exactly what fantasy is.

Roll for anal circumference! And those fucking shrieking harpies in the audience, gotta cheer for buttsex.

Having romance companions in RPG was a mistake, and I doubt any of the female models look any way presentable.
I hate that there is an RPG that has that stat, but I can't remember the name, and I have no idea how to word it to search even moderately safely for my sanity.

F.A.T.A.L, a rape fantasy erotic RPG. I've tried playing it once for a one time funny thing with friends, but the system has so many d100 tables and rules it's genuinely unplayable unless you're dedicated enough to the fetishes and genuinely want to play it.

Medieval-flavored fantasy: bad
Fantasy worlds that don't look have the racial demographics of JFK airport: bad
Attractive women: bad
Cultural appropriation: bad
Not doing cultural appropriation: bad
White people: bad
People that aren't white ever being bad: bad

These people live to complain and exert power over others by being whiny bitches.

This feels like one of those games your going to need to save scum a lot on a good path because of all the shit they'd pull on you.

"That nice man you helped earlier? He eats babys, being good sucks, you suck" Yeah I can see them pulling that often.

I just want to know how much I can get away with killing pricks and dicks with the few worthwhile companions in tow.

The ninja chick and the guy who wants to exorcise his demon seem cool. I might keep the vampire guy around if he's not too insufferably evil. Everybody else goes in the wood chipper unless the hellboy looking chick is somehow good aligned.

Tbf, RPGs always struggled with turn cost economy. A character that can do two actions a turn is infinitely better than a character that hits twice as hard simply for being more versatile and able yo recover from bad rolls.

It's the lesser evil when the alternative is open world with scaling enemies. Though a well designed game would try at least to at least justify it by things going south while the party wasn't there.

Good open-world RPGs don't have damage or HP scaling at all. Your mechanics should be built to facilitate the kind of game you want to play. You shouldn't decide on mechanics first, then shoehorn the game into the mechanics. If what you want is for your hero to still be killable by a street urchin in the endgame, then don't use anything D&D's hit point/damage scaling system, which is very specifically and intentionally designed to make epic heroes unkillable by stray dogs and pickpockets. Look to games like Traveller, Savage Worlds, or even FATE for ideas.

That's why Divinity is stupid and clearly made by people who don't know RPGs.

i was worried when i heard larian was in charge of this game but that was like 3 years ago so i forgot about it. catching up on it since the release date was announced and it seems all my fears were justified. larians reddit humor and complete modernization of morality was just part of the divinity series. but that wasnt a part of the baldurs gate series.

im afraid this will end up like elder scrolls. massive new audience for a streamlined skyrim and the intricacies of morrowind or daggerfall are lost. its petty but i would of preferred if they just called it what it is-divinity 3: forgotten realms.

Why are you allowing yourself to be baited by discord tranny memes from /v/? The early access has been out for years and it's excellent, it's no more degenerate than baldurs gate 1 + 2. There aren't even any trannies in it so far. It isn't streamlined compared to BG1+2 except insofar as 5e is simpler than 2e. There isn't much humor in the game and what's there is pretty solid. Stop letting Shazamtrannies looking for the next TORtanic dictate your opinions for you.
