great job Elon, now I am 100% of the time rate limited and can't use twitter anymore from my banned account. You closed that loophole, congratulations for keeping the dangerous individuals out of Twitter.

Social media needs a storefront. Most people can't decide they want to join it if they can't see what's in it first. Instagram and Twitter built momentum when they were easy to browse with not much friction.
Threads has none of that. There's no equivalent of a real friend linking you to a tweet, that leads to you looking at more tweets and going down the rabbit hole.
As far as I can tell, the only current motivation for a brand new Threads customer is ideological loathing of Twitter. That doesn't make it the new Twitter, it makes it the new Gab.

The fact that verified and popular accounts on Twitter can now get paid also tips the scale towards people returning to Twitter. I bet a lot of Journos who refused to pay the $8/month are now pissed they're missing out on ad money.

I'm undergoing the same issue. Is this meant to be permanent? Because otherwise I'm going to have to go through hoops to get another one, or appeal my OG account to begin archiving again.

Nope, it's not permanent, but I suspect that it will be.
They are clearly still adjusting this. Yesterday I was able to access Twitter "normally" from the banned account, so I thought they reversed it. But now I went back to verify after reading your reply and it's again fully rate limited and I cannot see a single tweet.

I don’t know what your point is then because losing over half of advertisers and 2/3rd of product valuation seems pretty “touchable” to me. Buying Twitter was the ultimate monkeys paw wish, the fact that the site is still functional enough for trannies to post constant ebegging and HRT recipes notwithstanding.
Personally I want Threads to succeed and throttle Twitter because the ad machine does not allow porn and without the ability to post the most debased rot brain pervert content tranny traction reverts to zero.

No, Twitter is less profitable than it ever has been. He loaded the company with billions and billions of dollars worth of debt. Firing 70,000 DEI officers would not put a significant dent in those repayments.

Trump made twitter profitable for a brief blip in 2016-2019 because of how many eyeballs went to the site. It has never made money outside of that window, and everything Elon started doing after acquiring the company reeks of a dude trying to bring a VC-fueled shitheap back into the black.
