I might've been willing to give this game a chance if they just called it what it is; Divinity III but I more or less noped the fuck out the very instant the NPC roster dropped.

Seriously if you take one look at this game and think it's Baldur's Gate in any capacity you're either out of your mind or a Zoom-Zoom who heard of Baldur's Gate all of last week and are net larping as a classic CRPG fan.

my opinion is from reading this thread and watching videos they put out themselves. the combat is divinity. the characters are insufferable. what does this game have to do with baldurs gate 1 or 2? a developer that gets mad at its players for choosing the wrong characters certainly doesnt reveal a telling worldview that has ruined other franchises.

Divinity's combat is based on action points and persistent environmental AoE effects, this really does look like 5e, although the graphics engine is very obviously Divinity.

The combat mostly revolves around managing persistent damage zones, which is frequently annoying.

And keeping both magical and physical damage options made less sense than just powering through by focusing on overewhelming damage in one type.

Your complaints have legitimacy. I think they would have been better off if they had just said it's a game in the forgotten realms instead of calling it BG3. Making Divinity OS 3 "Baldur's Gate 3" just had a simple purpose though the DnD lore is pretty neat.

Personally I just like it because this game looks AAA and god Divinity OS 1 and 2 were so fugly looking. We were never getting a real Baldur's Gate 3 because Real Time With Pause was a pain in the ass and that Turn Based gives way for Co-Op is neat.

As for the infamous choosing the wrong character I am so rolling with a Human Male.

I can't see any meaningful visual difference between BG3 and DOS2. They even reuse UI elements. I guess the biggest difference is the battle arena isn't always covered in fire or acid.

DOS 2 looks MOBA like to me. BG3 immerses me more because I can zoom in and appreciate that they've got high quality models.

And the big difference is that now they're doing a Bioware/Telltale thing where the conversations are cinematically paced. Like the last story sequence they showed off, the one where you convince the crazy Shar doctor to kill his nurse minions and then proceeds to kill himself. I'm excited to play sequences like that.

For this to be worthy of the BG name, your companions have to interact and bicker naturalistically. You shouldn't notice their banter dialogue trees, or how they are being triggered.

The only modern game that comes close is The Outer Worlds, but companion dialogue is so gauche, so over-the-top Twitter posting for the most part, that you end up laughing at the whole shitshow rather than with the intended humour. I end up feeling arrogantly superior playing The Outer Worlds, rather than invested in anything going on, and entertain myself by gaslighting my hideous companions into making terrible choices because they are so very awful as people.

its a tumblr parody of a game set in a D&D setting. Romances in games are ok but not when they are too busy finishing the faggot fetish alphabet to finish their story. From actual gameplay you could have guessed it was about tumblr fanfiction infighting with an insane focus on forced fetish romances and you'd be correct.

Maybe the mindflayers killed the writers and assumed their identities? Anyway the Mindflayers seem to have won and shattered the 4th wall IRL. The niggers (developers) at Larian had it coming. They spent at least a year of development with every update being about the romances instead of finishing the story first. As far as I care, they never left the first area after the tutorial with the level cap still being level 6 and still want to charge full price for a glorified demo after 3 years lmao.

Did anyone document the "under construction" Live action cutscenes from the end of the playable story at any given point? I just remember them LARPing in some knight cosplay and carrying some bricks around in front of a green screen. While telling you that you can't go any further when you got to the dwarven stronghold in the underdark. Larian is truly a lolcow developer.

That is one of my main problems with this game. Larian is focusing too much on the superficial shit like romances. Compare Baldur's Gate 3 development and marketing to Starfield's. With Starfield Todd Howard and the other devs have mostly talked about exploration and the adventure you will be going on in Starfield. Gives you a sense that the main selling feature of that game is exploration. With Baldur's Gate 3 it seems the main selling feature for the game is the romances. Which would be fine if the game was a dating sim but it isn't. Baldur's Gate and the other D&D games are games famous for their writing and dialogue. RPG games that made you feel like you were playing at a table. I get why they are doing this. They want to make the game more appealing to a female audience but I feel like Larian is brushing over what is suppose to be important in a Baldur's Gate game. I mean, I had to go searching for articles when it came about the story and gameplay yet Larian just keeps hyping the romances in all their dev shows. That kind of tells you of where their priorities were.

Yes. It's has been that way with fantasy books for the past decade now. From what I've learned from writer Larry Correia is that there are a lot of fantasy writers that don't ape off Game of Thrones, however, many publishers won't let their stories see the light of day because they are all chasing for that new Game of Thrones and still see the GoT formula as popular. As such only books that are GoT-like get published and since the GoT setting is the only setting that publishers will bother with this has a domino effect on other areas in the entertainment industry like video games where the only fantasy setting they will do is GoT-like.
