Fuck this strike.

I got a buddy living out in LA, he does special effects (explosions) and he’s been installing solar panels for $500 a week while these assholes are holding up an entire industry.

He’s getting by, but the whole thing is really opening his eyes on how shitty LA is. I really hope this bullshit gets resolved so my buddy can go back to blowing shit up.

Yeah everybody's laughing about the writers whining or the actors falling on their fainting couch but this strike is screwing so many crewmen right now.

If those guys went on strike, do you think they’re worth Kiwi support?

Honestly, no.

No offense to your friend personally, but my opinion is "fuck every cog in the hollywood machine." The crew is part of producing the propaganda being used to psyop us all. If your friend were to realize he could install solar panels in Texas or Florida for a fraction of the cost of living he would probably be better off.

edit: $12.50 /hr is what your friend would make @ 40 hours per week all year making $500 a week. In Texas, Chick-Fil-A pays more in starting wages.

He seemingly would actually do better serving fast food in LA than installing those solar panels...

I have to bang the drum again that the issue of AI as a means of "preserving" a writer or actors existence in perpetuity beyond even death itself is a hill worth on dying on. The studios cannot be allowed to create a digital Tom Cruise for Mission Impossible 20, decades from now.

this is quite literally "first they came for". Nobody here likes these cunts and probably won't bat an eye if they all die. But a precedent is about to be set here that will have massive ramifications for human society going foreword.

I don't think SAG and the Writers are even aware of just what kind of a fight they just picked here. It's all about the residuals and the rights to them. But to the corporations it's all about their ability to replace humanity itself.

Those machines and AI will be programmed and watched over by the same people
You can already train your own and there are dozens of open source options. If you mean the ones that Hollywood will use to shit out movie and show scripts, you're right.

Oh, wow. This is literally the first I have heard about this writers strike and it is July 15th already! I guess not having cable/streaming and not bothering with MSM have kept me in the dark. Or Hollywood has just become THAT worthless because now that I am hearing about it I could care less.

Anybody remember the last writers strike, the one about streaming royalties or whatever? The networks just flooded air time with reality shows and the only new content was South Park because their entire operation is self contained. That also brought us one of my favorite SP episodes, "Canada On Strike".

Manlet Thorin, a shitposter and troll I know through the Bob Mob, really got a bunch of people's panties in a bunch.

The sheer number of people upset at him correctly pointing out the quality of writing at shit we were told to care about is quite amazing. As you can see more people are upset by his tweet mocking Forespoken than they are by the Cowboy Bebop one. Most of it's probably because the Cowboy Bebop is a reply to the Forespoken one but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's incredibly indefensible. I recommend going through the replies. I'd wager 95% of the negative replies and quote tweets boil down to "Just because they wrote something really bad doesn't mean they don't deserve a living wage for being bad at writing!" Here's some of them.

You get the idea. I really wonder how many of these people, on strike or their supporters, have actually broke a sweat at their job assuming they've ever had one.

and my favorite reply that sums up my feelings on everything.

I feel you guys. The good thing, to some extent even if it's a pain in the ass, is that they got actual skills they can take somewhere else.

I feel you too bro and understand your concerns but I do not know what we can do about it. I have not seen one person who's part of the strike even broach what you've brought up here and before about AI. When it is brought up it is always "But I don't want automation replacing ME!" In the little bit of scrolling through that tweet thread above I found one singular guy who brought up AI and I have to assume that he's only concerned about the writing being boring or nonsensical.

I really think the genie is out of the bottle on AI. I think we are on the verge, if we're not already there, of living in a post-truth world where events, happenings, facts and the like will be made up whole cloth. In 2 years time will we even be able to tell that Big Brother is lying to us about the ongoing Ukraine peace keeping mission?

If just some part of the this strike was "Ey yo! This AI thing that they keep pushing is a real problem and we cannot continue to work while they're using it" or something like that I would be willing to hear them out but no. It's about money. It's about getting more money for doing the same amount of shit work. It's about permanently keeping shit shows in circulation so they can continue to get residuals and those residuals need to go up. It's about them, these entitled shits that think they deserve the same money as someone who wrote and Emmy winning episode of Breaking Bad because they wrote one episode about muff diving teens from another universe, and only them and you're rightly pointed this out. Worse yet if you try to explain what you've brought up to those who are for the writers I am more than willing to be that they either will not understand it, not care, or parrot what you're saying without comprehending it because it's just more ammo for them.

I feel bad for them, but honestly the Writers and Actors scuttling the industry through their greed and ego can only be a good thing long term.

post-truth world
Dude, we've already been there for 3 years. COVID with masks that may or may not reduce chance of you/others from getting sick, peaceful riots, and a overthrow attempt where the only people died were ones gunned down by police officers. The media has grown an entire population that believes everything at face value as long as the experts say it. Now they are in panic because they've been dethroned from their position as experts.

Believe you me I'm fully aware of the state we're in. What I fear is an eventuality is that AI will be used to create events and happenings and evidence whole cloth and there will be no way to tell the difference unless you were there.

You’re not wrong. But I think we have some time because that requires true believers running the AI or the AI going Full Skynet.

In the meantime, AI is currently being used to make shit like this:

All blown on hair dye and Jack in the Box in an afternoon.
Jack In The Box when you have In N Out Burger in your backyard. I feel no pity.

I'm not so much worried about AI going full Skynet as much as I am the government creating evidence to easily and legally disappear people they don't like.

Vtubers aren't on strike. Fleshtubers aren't on strike. Korean/Indian/Japanese/Hong Kong media isn't on strike. The West's fixation on Hollywood is pathetic at this point. Which gives me lulz.
