The US soldier who crossed the border into North Korea in a suspected defection shouted "ha ha ha" as he ran, a witness has said.

A US service member reportedly crossed the border into North Korea from the demilitarized zone (DMZ) - the heavily fortified border between North and South Korea.

The United Nations Command reported the incident and stated that the individual is now believed to be in North Korean custody.

The witness, who was part of the same tour group visiting the DMZ, gave their account of the incident.

According to the witness, they had just visited one of the buildings at the site when they heard a man give out a loud "ha ha ha" and saw him run in between some buildings.

The witness told CBS News: "This man gives out a loud 'ha ha ha,' and just runs in between some buildings. I thought it was a bad joke at first, but when he didn't come back, I realizsed it wasn't a joke, and then everybody reacted and things got crazy."

A US official said the service member was initially being escorted back to the United States for disciplinary reasons but somehow managed to return and join a border tour before crossing into North Korea.

The witness mentioned that military personnel reacted quickly to the man's actions, but there was initial confusion.

They stated that there were no North Korean soldiers visible where the man ran, likely due to the border restrictions enforced during the coronavirus pandemic.

After the man crossed the border, the tour group was rushed back to the Freedom House, where everyone had to provide statements about the incident before being taken back to their bus, he said.

The witness was deeply affected by the incident and shared their emotions about it. On the way back on the bus, they counted the number of people who went in and came back, realising that one person was missing.

They said: "I'm telling you this because it actually hit me quite hard," the witness said. "It was on the way back in the bus, and we got to one of the checkpoints... Someone said we were 43 going in and 42 coming back."

The DMZ separating North and South Korea is heavily fortified, and the incident adds to the tension between North Korea and the US, South Korea, and Japan.

North Korea has been conducting missile and rocket tests, while the US expects North Korea to conduct a new nuclear weapon test.

The US recently sent a nuclear-armed submarine to South Korea, which further adds to the tensions.

Kim Jong Un's sister warned the US against reinforcing its commitment to defend South Korea, threatening a move away from negotiations.

The situation remains sensitive, given the unresolved Korean War and the presence of US troops in South Korea.

Any update the melanin level of this individual
I remember there was a story of a Japanese woman defecting to Best Korea because she was a diehard communist, and she was very confused why they put her in a labor camp after she was caught with wrong think in the communist utopia.
They really are best Korea

Someone said the famine was over in NK. Not exactly, many are still starving. This clown will likely be in P'yongyang, where food supplies are better. However, US troops are always well-fed on American bases overseas. He would have been fed reasonably well while in the South Korean jail; either the Koreans would have provided certain foods or the US military would have provided CARE packages. In North Korean custody, this fool had better get used to eating Korean food at every meal, and not that much of it. The NKs don't like holding Americans not of Korean background much; we expect a certain standard of living, higher than North Koreans. This uninvited guest will eat adequately but the days of unlimited hamburgers, pizzas, chips, chocolate bars, beer, etc., are gone, possibly forever.

Don't think this guy is smart enough to be much of a teacher of anything useful to the NKs. Not even sure of his propaganda value.

Here are some possibilities.

1. The NKs realize how useless he is and simply turns him over. May as well, saves them aggravation and money. Upon return to US custody, even more Uniform Code of Military Justice charges are filed against him, he meets a general court-martial and does many years in Leavenworth. If he hadn't escaped military custody and defected, likely he would have had a special court-martial, one step down from a general court-martial, gotten a bad-conduct discharge, some confinement.

If interested, check out this list of UCMJ articles. Rest assured should the Army get him back they will pile on the charges. I sure as hell would.

2. They keep him around, for whatever reason. They give him some sort of job, least until he starts causing trouble, which can be expected, then turn him over.

3. The NKs keep him, find out he's worthless, and meets the fate of joseph White.

You can also expect some heads rolled in the US military organization(s) tasked to ensure he got to the USA, likely the Eighth Army Provost Marshal. Am sure an investigation was started as soon as it was noticed this turd had escaped custody.

If this guy has joined in 2021 and is still a private, he has very likely already had UCMJ actions already. Normally by the time one's been in the Army two years one is at least a private first class E-3, sometimes a specialist E-4.

The consensus of various comments sections is that Travis drunkenly chimped out and assaulted a South Korean woman outside a bar, and then resisted arrest. His mother is apparently a mouthy cunt on Facebook, too. This makes the way both are being presented in the media even funnier, with the Official Story being this Kang merely "kicked a police car" poor boy, and his wise Magical Negro mother pausing from being forced to pick Wisconsin cotton to teach the White Devil chicken recipes and pearls of learning like "I can't see him doing something like that..." She flatly denies even the original charges, let alone her idiot son sprinted across a minefield to defect.

someone retarded enough to do this probably doesnt have the intelligence for reflecting and realizing they were wrong.
Even with the sorry state of our new Woke Army and the desperation of recruiters to meet quotas, the standards for enlistment are still relatively high. That said, unstable people are bound to slip through. There are and will always be misfits in every army. The article stated that the defecting soldier was facing disciplinary action for something or other. He was probably under immense pressure and saw defection as a way out, all problems solved.

Not too long ago some dumbass American kid on a tourist trip (?!) got drunk and tore down a flag in the lobby of his hotel. The Norks arrested him, interrogated him, tortured him, and turned him back over to us in a coma apparently brought about by their use of a primitive truth serum, after which he died. It was all very stupid and sad. Same thing here.

An e2 after two years? Sounds like a winner. Plus fucking with locals, it's a great way to get your entire command on lockdown. He must have been popular in the barracks.

It sounds like they were shipping him back to Texas to just get separated with an other than honorable discharge. But it doesn't make sense how he could skip out of the airport and then immediately join a tour to the border. You got to sign up way ahead of time and with all your documentation. You can't just sneak onto a bus or something.

Chances are, this is the most effort and planning this retard has ever done, just to get beaten and starved in the DPRK.

Can we just leave him there?
