I'm actually going to defend Rekeita here, because I completely get what he's saying.

He's saying that he enjoys that Josh is autistic enough to be knowledgeable about very esoteric topics to the point that he can engage in in-depth discussions. He's not calling Josh a retard in the Chris Chan sense, he's calling Josh a retard in the "autistic enough to care to read" sense.

Then why not just call Null an autist? It would be easier to say than "down syndrome" and would be more on-brand for KF, but instead Nick opts for comparing him with someone with down syndrome. It wasn't a slip of the tongue either, because Nick used that to add to the comparison by saying Null also has a negative attitude (not like intelligent and fun-loving Nick).

I'm more inclined to think that this is Nick's ego at work when talking to someone he disagrees with. Nick will diplomatically say that he appreciates a "different perspective" and then later calls them retarded. When Nick realizes he's said too much about something he can always adopt his usual "I'm joking except when I'm not, but I'm just being me either way" defense until people get bored of the topic.

Nick and Null don't have to actually like/hate each other, but watching how Nick pretends to respect Null considering what's happened the last number of months has been revealing. Recommend being economical when giving Nick the benefit of the doubt, especially if the problem behavior fits an established pattern.

@Joggin Noggin is correct here. Something happened afterwards. Circa 2022, or so. It might have been the appeal (not trial) failing. That happened in the later half of 2022 (August?). It lines up better with the timeline. Although even then, I think people noticed cracks in the façade much earlier in the year.

As an anime hater I didn't really pay much attention to all that, but I definitely don't think that's the cause. As you note, there were very noticeable cracks before then (the "worst day" personal issues early in summer 2022, just after the Depp trial).

I'm pretty sure that was around when Nick's drinking on stream started to pick up to the point where he sometimes seemed visibly intoxicated in a way he typically wasn't before. It's also around when he began talking about using drugs other than alcohol - though I think at this point it was just edibles; other substances came later.

If there was any trepidation about the Vic case, I have a feeling it was that he didn't want to talk about it because how embarrassing it was that the lawyer he recommended to Vic, who had been the executor for the estate of Rekieta's very, very wealthy grandfather, fumbled the ball in a very visible way.

I don't think there was any impropriety there at all in that recommendation, by the way. It might have just been "this is the only lawyer in Texas I know enough to be able to recommend", but obviously the optics of it are very bad, because it makes the entire case look silly to begin with.

He's got people like those in this thread right now (who are mostly good bois), but he's also got the older set from 2019 that filed a gorillion complaints to the Minnesota OLPR trying to get his law license stripped away from him (example that Null talked about back in 2019). They likely haven't gone away, and they are insane people.

Whereas Nick's detractors used to be mainly concentrated on the left, now it is a far more diverse crowd.
