Barbie - A More Successful Movie than You'd Think

Bro, you could just watch Drive or The Nice Guys to see Ryan Gosling. You don't have to subject yourself to this slop.
It's too late. I loved Drive, The Nice Guys and Blade Runner 2049. They are just great kino, yet I cannot say the same for the Barbie movie, which I already watched for at least 20 minutes and gave up. It didn't help that my movie experience was already shit and I was sorta in a very pissed off mood. See, when I was in the theatre, I was already assigned to the wrong seats. The usher and I talked about this and whole confusion behind it and instead of booking a ticket to another showing of Barbie, I ended up getting a discount ticket for a showing of Mission Impossible tomorrow.

But yea, the first 20 minutes of what I've seen was a dumpster fire that had only one good joke. The audiences were laughing at the tedious jokes, yet I only chuckled in pity. The whole movie is just another shitty example of wahman power goyslop. I was even prepared for the worst when I was greeted trailers for upcoming garbage, and even Regal's dumbass policy trailer that even the internet hates, the one where the people (especially poor Danny Trejo which I feel bad for him for saying yes to this ad) just quote movie lines in an awkward pace.

So yea, my post here isn't really a review, but just my shitty experience of watching a shitty movie. Ah well, at least when I saw Oppenheimer in the same theatre the night before, it wasn't a complete waste and I liked it. So yes, Barbie was bad and Greta Gerwig should feel bad.

I saw the clip of Ryan/Ken realizing that the patriarchy was a thing and thought it was good. Just not in the way I’m sure the movie wanted me to.

It was wild how they tried to spin all of these harmless and also super culturally American things as Wrong and Bad. Like damn, I'm a woman, and if being under the patriarchy means riding horses, drinking with my friends, playing sports, and going fishing, sign me the fuck up.

Like, from Ken’s perspective, this is a film about a guy living under an oppressive regime that keeps his gender dumb and blissful, he discovers the power to change things for him and all the other men for the better, goes back and immediately improves things for ALL the men, only to be brought back under foot and told “when we think things are equal in this other place, then you can have rights.”

Add in Ryan Godling being super positive and encouraging guys overall, and it’s no wonder people like Ken more.

I've talked to some people who described it as a social commentary about social justice going to far, and is framed so the official antagonist of the series is the ones very clearly in the right. I'm definitely intrigued, but my partner doesn't want to watch it as he's supporting the writer's strike bullshit so i'll have to watch it on my own some time.

Kencels RISE UP
We just can't stop winning.

What's even funnier is, Ken's "patriarchal overtake" is actually not oppressive either. He does it diplomatically by talking to other Kens & Barbies, with their consent. The rise of Ken & his Kendom/Kenpire to power is actually voluntarily. All the Barbies actually enjoy themselves too, they literally have no problems. It's like a multi-ethnic White Boy Summer, which itself was multi-ethnic as per Chet Hanks.

Later, the actual neurotic femcel Barbies kidnap the normal Barbies while Ken rises to power & "deprogram" them with a femnazi rant, (this is not including seethe-driven line about Zack Snyder, probably mandated by WB out of cope). After which they makes all the Kens "fight", which isn't even a fight as much as it's a "Bro-off" of sorts, where they later became homies again.

The meta joke is basically "heh imagine if da situations wer reversed" kinda shit. The Kens are supposed to be a reversal of how women are the "oppressed" in real life with Barbies as the "matriarchy", so midwit millennial women can turn to their BFs & say "SEE THAT'S WHAT IT'S LIKE". The nominal liberation they get at the end is meant to parallel how modern feminism has supposedly only given women nominal equality & there's still le glass ceiling.

Now, of course in typical midwit fashion they haven't thought out the full implications of their allegory & unintentionally made the Barbies absolutely evil, despotic, cunts who are far more authoritarian than even the feminist strawman of patriarchy who at the end of the movie fully understand how evil they are but continue to be evil for its own sake. This film might as well be Starship Troopers of the 2020's. Also, naturally, the allegory falls apart when sex & childbearing isn't a factor at all & also (I could be wrong on this) trannies are integrated into the system.

Seriously, if anyone wanted a textbook example of how "protagonist ≠ hero" trope works, this film is the textbook example of it. Hell, after John Walker (MCU version), Gaston, Miguel O'Hara (ITSV 2 version), Soldier Boy (The Boys show version), Ken may unironically be another case of true hero character in media.

I have a feeling this won't bomb since you'll have families, the nostalgia crowd, and the idpol crowd all watching it.
bomb is only in relation to money (and we have to wait and see how hard it drops of a cliff), best example is nuwars which didn't bomb either but basically killed the franchise.

imo what's even worse in this case that the audience got tricked to see a shitty sjw-movie. seeing a shitty trailer and deciding to watch something else is one thing, seeing the trailer, looking forward to a fun, maybe silly but inoffensive rom-com, and then get hit with two hours of feminist fanfiction has quite a different effect. expectations are a hell of a drug, and it's common sense to keep what the marketing promised at least remotely.

the backlash could be even worse than usual because that, most wokeshit people can easily ignore it or aren't interest, if they even notice, but now they got a bit of a taste what other people had to deal with for years (not that they consciously understand it tho). hell hath no fury like a normalfag scorned, because once they start spreading worth of mouth and collectively shit on the movie, and possibly in extension the wokeshit the movie was all about, combined with all the grievances they all individually have, ho boy.

niggercattle gonna niggercattle, but it's sheer size which usually makes it so annoying is also it's greatest asset, because you don't want it to stampede in your direction.
it would be hilarious if it's this movie that kicks it off (which is gonna happen eventually)

It’s hilariously ironic that a major plot point is Ken stealing BarbieLand with Gosling stealing the movie.

A few okays jokes (The Godfather one), great production design, good Gos, paper thin otherwise.
Ken may be a second class citizen in his world but he is a star in ours. He steals the audiences hearts like he steals the reins of power from a dystopian society.

Yeah, I’d be a lot less annoyed about this if the trailers didn’t make it seem like a goofy fun movie.

Granted, now that I know what the movie actually is, you can see a few red flags in the trailer.

I'm not even meme'ing, Ryan Gosling is a genuinely great actor, he literally (me) carries this film.

Also, here's some material for anyone who wants to make a Supercut of Ken.

Also, someone posted the femcel rant by the girl who played Ugly Betty (Now MILF Betty) on streamable. It's not full, & it cuts before the Zack Snyder shade is unnecessarily thrown.

It's also on streamable, so it might get deleted soon.

From what people have said in this thread about the movie. The writers may have screwed up and accidentally made the incel-Ken too relatable and sympathetic. Blinded by their own narrative they wanted to tell.

Even if you go by the assumption the movie was a role reversal. A jacked Ken working out to get the attention of Barbie, doesn't correlate. I've never heard of a girl in the guy friend zone working out dropping the pounds and start doing weighted squats.

So is Barbie actually good if you watch it as a tragedy?
It does sound like this show has two completely different messages. When America falls it will be reference material for classes in Language Arts, Social Studies, AND History. I was looking for a movie that was superficially woke but clearly right-wing, and this may have nailed it.
Go Team Ken

So how did the Kens even brainwash the barbies? it looked more like the Kens just decided to just found the Kendom; the girls just followed naturally and were feeling happy about it.
It seemed Barbie and the spics were doing the brainwashing by subverting the newly found Kendom.
Yeah, it's kind of horrifying that there's no overt indication that the Barbies were being oppressed or forced into anything and yet the movie still treats it as a crime that they are happy living in a Ken World and sees nothing wrong with the Barbies literally getting brainwashed into becoming feminists.

Did Gerwig intend to make it look like the bad guys won in the end?
