Oh noes, won't someone think of the poor background actors, only getting $187 for a day of standing around.

Somewhere I remember reading that the dubbed audience laugh tracks used on most Sitcoms or Variety shows were all recorded in the early 1950s and have been used virtually unchanged ever since. This kind of reminds me of that.

They've been doing this since the late 90s, albeit not calling it AI. Lucas notoriously did a lot of CG extras in the Star Wars prequels (and "special editions" via add-ins, in particular Tatooine). Weta famously created a package called MASSIVE that populated most of those big battles you saw in the Lord of the Rings. I guess they're worried the tech is getting good enough for the extras in the background or medium range? That boat left the dock, idiots.

Looking at how the union with the multihundredmillionaire members is already begging for donations from the public, I have to ask whether it's more likely dues have been misappropriated or if they're just so certain this will be a years-long strike that they're trying to garnish the coffers sooner rather than later.
I mean, most unions are supposed to be able to pay picketing members a modest wage. Am I wrong? That's supposedly the main reason they collect dues.
Captain Poggers has been posting shorts about it that I saw while using a Californian VPN node if that tells you anything about the default algorithm.

"Give us your money, consumers!"

What I don't get is how there aren't scabs lining up around the block for the writers guild. These writers are so abysmal that literally anyone could do their job, and there's so many opportunities out there for writers now that don't involve unions that it wouldn't even impact your career.
Being a Hollywood writer legitimately seems like something you can do in your spare time. Like a side-gig. Showrunner maybe not, but filler-writers? Sure.

Pour one out for the homies.

So not only is there nothing that sounds remotely good, but I'm actually relieved they're dropping the live action Lilo and Stitch. I hope it stays dead.

There is another thread about this strike, so I don't know where to post, so I'll just do it here, & probably repost there.

Apparently, as per a Forbes article [A], SAG-AFTRA is keeping tabs on any "influencers" who might be supporting the studios during the strike, & are threatening to blacklist you, should you ever decide to join. Also, if you think it's impossible for them to keep track of every single YouTuber & TikTokker, you're 100% correct, cause they're relying on your peers to snitch on you. All this for a crumb of Hollywood.

Tweet & Video by Clownfish TV on the matter:

This might be even worse than the cosplaying copyrighting they're trying to pull.

I feel like this thing from Indy PopCon's facebook should have been worded better. "Individuals have permission to attend and participate in pop culture conventions." Pretty sure they mean any writers that might be going to this thing, honestly why would the average con-going goober care? The people they like either show up or they don't and the celebrity guests should work that shit out with their bosses.
...Unless the convention organizers are implying that the average citizen might need permission to do whatever the hell they want, in which case we might need a little bit of that Summer Of Love 2020 spirit to burn some shit down.

Having learned more on the guidelines of the SAG-AFTRA strike, it has come to be understood that individuals have permission to attend and participate in pop culture conventions. Based on this information, PopCon does not expect it to impact our August 25-27 event, PopCon Indy.
We continue to look forward to the biggest PopCon ever as we celebrate our 10 year anniversary in Indianapolis. We will continue to keep you informed should we learn anything new, and we wish this comes to a quick resolution for all parties involved.

I've been to a couple of these conventions in the past, it's usually a good time.

Went to fan expo a few weeks back and it was nice, I also am happy to see things are changing as we speak in the con scene. I can see YouTubers and rumble stars being the next big con guests. A bit of TMI I knew that Anime Matsuri (once the worst anime con in Texas) is somehow fixing it's reputation and attracting the good guests people want to see and talk too.

Anyways that being said my whole reaction to the writers strike is I hope they all fail.

Annoying rich man tells poor people to give him free gibs.
That "annoying rich man" is Adam Conover, who's the closest thing to a lolcalf, if not a borderline lolcow in this whole strike. He's worked for College Humor & then surprisingly became big with his shitshow of a shit-show that is "Adam Ruins Everything", which is honestly just Adam lying about everything while smugly & condescendingly reading Wikipedia articles, giving it the term "Uhm Ackchyually, the show".

Edit: I forgot to include this, but he's also known as the worst Joe Rogan Guest of all time. Not in a metaphorical sense either, hell, not even in a subjective sense, it's almost a unanimously accepted to the point of borderline objectivity of a truth that Adam Conover is behind the worst episode of Joe Rogan Experience.
If you don't trust me, or even want to bother with the video above, just watch the episode clips for yourself. It's peak cringe, you'll need to cleanse it from your mind.
What's funny is, his life is essentially a wojak. He became famous through the Deboonker Wojak, you can read about this on Know Your Meme, or just find it on Soy Booru.

Back to the strike, during this strike's infancy, he basically left the strike to buy & play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at some hotel, posted it about it on Twitter. After this, he got wojak'd by Manlet Thorin on Twitter [A & GA] (Ghost Archive too cause normal archive isn't working well in general, specially with X (formerly Twitter) rn).

You see, making new things is risky for the executives because it might actually fail to make a profit and problematic for the writers because they would have to actually use the atrophied sections of their brain where people with actual creativity hold their ideas at. Thus in this great stagnant culture where we cannibalize the past because there is no real future to look forward to, the present is too controversial to make anything but the most basic bitch shitlib nonsense about; Sequels and Reboots are the name of the game because the only thing that anyone values in this society any more is maximum profit for minimum effort. Welcome to 2023, fuck you.
