Vegan raw food diet influencer Zhanna D’Art dies of starvation: report

Vegan influencer Zhanna Samsonova has reportedly “died of starvation” after subsisting exclusively off a diet of exotic fruit in Malaysia, according to her friends and family.

She was 39.

The Russian national — who frequently promoted raw foods on social media where she was known to her millions of viewers on TikTok, Facebookand Instagram as Zhanna D’Art — reportedly died July 21 after finally seeking medical treatment during a tour in Southeast Asia, according to local media outlet reports.

“A few months ago, in Sri Lanka, she already looked exhausted, with swollen legs oozing lymph,” one unidentified friend told Newsflash. “They sent her home to seek treatment. However, she ran away again. When I saw her in Phuket, I was horrified.”

Her friend added, “I lived one floor above her and every day I feared finding her lifeless body in the morning. I convinced her to seek treatment, but she didn’t make it.”

Samsonova’s mother attributed her daughter’s passing to “cholera-like infection.” However, her official cause of death has not been declared.

A proponent of uncooked herbivorous fare, the Kasan native claimed she ate a “completely raw vegan diet” for the last four years, consuming just “fruits, sunflower seed sprouts, fruit smoothies and juices.”

Meanwhile, a friend claimed that for the last seven years, Samsonova had only eaten the giant, sweet jackfruit and durian, a spiky, mace-like fruit known for its custardy meat and noxious odor.

“I see my body and mind transform every day,” Samsonova had gushed while describing her restrictive eating regimen. “I love my new me, and never move on to the habits that I used to use.”

The foodfluencer said her raw foods regimen was reportedly inspired by seeing “peers” who looked a lot older than their ages, which she attributed to their “junk food” diets.

She used social media to spread her raw diet doctrine, describing: “I eat simple food, although I have a lot of experience as a raw food chef. I love creating my own recipes and inspiring people to eat healthier.”

Unfortunately, her friends believe her so-called healthy food choices were to blame for her death.

“You don’t need to be a doctor to understand where this will lead,” said one pal of her all-durian and jack fruit diet.

“Zhanna’s idle stagnation was causing her to melt before our eyes, but she believed everything was fine,” theorized another. “Only her eyes, merry eyes, and gorgeous hair compensated for the dreadful sight of a body tortured by idiocy. Forgive me if it sounds harsh.”

While a raw foods diet can have multiple health benefits — including weight loss, improved heart health and a lower risk of diabetes — there are downsides to this regimen, especially when not well planned, according to Healthline.

These include deficiencies in calcium and Vitamin D, which are needed for strong bones. This can also lead to suboptimal B12 levels, which can result in anemia, nervous system damage, infertility and, somewhat paradoxically, heart disease.

A study published earlier this month in the Journal of Nutrition found that 100% of participants on a raw vegan diet ingested less than the recommended 2.4 mcg of vitamin B12 per day.

Despite the potential downsides to Samsonova’s diet, many of her devoted followers refused to believe her eating choices led to her death, instead claiming that she was killed by chemicals in the fruit she ate.

Samsonova’s family is awaiting a medical report and a death certificate that will determine her official cause of death.

Samsonova wouldn’t be the first to starve to death from a raw foods diet.

Last year, vegan Florida mother Sheila O’Leary, 38, was sentenced to life in prison after starving her 18-month-old son to death by feeding him only small amounts of fruits and vegetables.

Those must be old pictures. The Deathfat skellies are like half her weight.

don’t eat gluten
This whole meme diet started because people with Celiac Disease get violent shits when they eat wheat products.

Fad dieters took this to mean that gluten is some nasty substance, despite humans living off it for 10,000 years and Celiac being a congenital autoimmune disorder.

Lots of marketing can be done by playing on the insecurities and gullibility of hypochondriacs, so afraid to die that they neglect to live.

So, renal failure, and hell knows what other failures.
Shame, she looked pretty normal in one of those pics.
Must've been really extreme with her diet, not just vegan, but also not eating enough. How the fuck there were no friends to save her dumass...

This woman comes across like she was half doing this for pseudo science health reasons and half because she was anorexic. Being that sickly thin should cause someone who is rational to take a step back. She likely had very bad self image issues and used obsessive veganism as an excuse to starve herself.

And they're all genuinely mentally challenged. I don't mean autistic or downs or anything, just that their brains are full of unicorn farts and cat fur. They are the NPC wojak with an optimistic outlook
Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin for cognitive function. Vegan diets lack B12 as you can only get it from meat/fish/eggs/cheese ect.

How could her legs swell? There's nothing in her body to swell them with. Did her bones liquefy and collect in her legs?
It's due to her not eating anything with protein.

You can get B12 from some plants, but those aren't going to have as much as meat or dairy.

When you’re such a high level vegan that even cooked rice isn’t diet friendly. Also, how did she not get tired of only eating raw fruit?

Mushrooms yeast and algae are pretty much it.

(Edit and bacteria, some plants might have some bacteria or yeast contaminating them providing some B12).

The B12 supplements you get usually come from (gmo probably lol) yeast.
There's also a couple different forms like Methylcobalamin and cyanocobalamin (and a couple less used others).

I work with a hardcore vegan, having friends will not matter because she wouldn't have listened to them. "Oh, you're just so addicted to killing animals you're ashamed of me because I stopped!" <- Actual argument I've heard from him. It's so bad we can't even talk food around him.

Veganism is mostly a smokescreen for eating disorders. And even when it isn't, it still causes serious malnutrition because vegans refuse to admit that some nutrients just can't be acquired from plants alone. Even most herbivorous animals eat the odd bit of animal protein from time to time.

Humans are mostly meat-eaters who learned to alter a relative handful of plant species to be more digestible by reducing their natural fiber and toxin levels to tolerable levels through centuries of restrictive culling. And even then, often only one part of the plant is edible, with the rest still toxic.

True and Honest Autists who only eat one or two foods are at risk for malnutrition, but it'll be a cold day in hell before you get them to stop eating whatever food they're obsessed with. In other words, she was an Honorary Autist.

I've enjoyed eating wild Durian.

That is to say, I survived it. To this day I can not describe how disgusting it was; but I can confirm that the odor remained on my body and breath for 3 days regardless of bathing and brushing my teeth.

If that was her main fruit, her corpse will smell especially disgusting.

She ate jack shit, more like.

I can almost see how she could get like that though: mango lassi is a sickly sweet yogurt drink that I have trouble putting the cap back onto. Luckily it is expensive, I've definitely been known to shotgun three big bottles in one shameful sitting, and I didn't even feel the bruising afterwards as they knocked me off the ceiling with a broom.

Protein deficiency? Neither jackfruit nor durian (nor their combination presumably) is a source of complete protein.

Imagine the smell… to subsist largely on durian is surely to punish yourself ?
Oh I love durian. I can subsist entirely on durian for a few days, if only it weren't so damn expensive outside SE Asia.
Jackfruit isn't as high-fat as durian and is therefore not nearly as filling.
